License Plate Light Mod

Look at how this mod turns out for a TL.

I'm working on it and will have pictures soon. Currently waiting for the light to come home. I will have this done by the end of the week.

Does it just make the license plate lights super bright?

did this mod last week. it didnt turn out as bright as the TL because we have the trunk release button between both license plate lights. so my tubes arent directly above the light covers. still looks awesome though. id take pics but i still am out of a camera.

basically they put a white cold cathode light inside instead of using our regular light bulbs.

Here is another picture.

Look at the clear cut on the ground.

Notice that the TL doesnt have the trunk release switch on the back, so they were able to put a long cathode tube in there. I've check our trunk, and we have to use 2 4'' tube instead.

Here is the link that shows you how to do it:

wow nice mod but thats way too bright for me the license plate lights. I guess this can be a fun project during the break but not worth getting all that to have my plate bright. plus, cop will be freaking all over my ass for that.

I got everything installed, but it doesn't light up. I don't know what I am doing wrong.

I have two sets of light. 1 set of 4" and 1 set of 12"
I connected both of them to two sockets from the license plate. Do I need to wire them directly to the wire or not?

Anyone has any idea why is it not working?

For those who got it working, does it light up when you unlock the car?

Yes it lights up when the lights flash. LED's must be put in the correct direction. They are a diode and the diode circuit must run in one direction. Take the bulb out, turn it around and replace. Should work.

Man I'm so piss off right now. I don't know if I fried the inverter or not. I tested the 4" tubes and it light up and everything. When I taped everything in, it stops working. Now I can't get any of them to light up. I tried testing it to the trunk light wires and nothing happen. I switch the wires around and still it doesnt work. I have 3 inverters, bought 1 extra and I don't think there is no way I fried all 3 of them. I have been driving around with no license plate lights for a week already. I don't know what I can do now. Probably putting back the old light. That's suck

had Tec_toyz's 9 LED whites for my license plate.
but when i installed them, they were little too big to fit in, and one was a clear bright white while the other one was bright purplish white.

drove for past 2 months, and it jus bugged me ,so i decided to buy jus one more 9 LED whites.

instead of that, he sent me 2 new bulbs (says it's white-hi powered 1 watt bulb)
smaller than the 9 or even 6 LED 194 bulb,

gonna put them on tomorrow to see how it looks like
funny thing is that this bulb has no "glass" top. no filament nor any LED small bulbs.

it almost looks like a halogen bulb without its filament-glasstop

we'll see how it looks...

yeah I was thinking of switching to 1 watt bulb. I think those might look brighter than the 9 LED since they never point directly downward.

I got mine from tec-toyz on ebay which I think a lot of people also have gotten them from him. He has auctions listed for the TSX...just go into ebay and type TSX LED lights or 1 Watt LED and you will see 1 watt LED license plate lights come up.

Ok I decided to give it another try, so I ordered 2 more inverters, and I finally got it working.

What I really learned out of this is that if you hook the inverter in the wrong positive/negative wire, then you will have to go buy a new one. NO EXCUSES!

because I didn't use the T-snap on connector like everyone did, I believe during my installation, I somehow connected all 3 of my inverters in the wrong direction.

So here how I did this. Instead of slapping on a piece of plastic to cover the hole I went the extra steps to make it more secure. For those who doesn't know you can pull the metal piece right where the trunk release button out and put something in between and snap it back to cover the hole.

I use a bicycle tire and cut it out and glue the plastic piece on it.

I pulled the metal piece out and put the plastic pieces in between and snap it back in.

This is why I burned 3 inverters. This time I mark the positive wire with the marker so I won't put it in the wrong direction. I use the led light I have and cut it out to get the outside cover of it to make the connector.

connecting everything in.

It's super bright. Same result as the TL. I use 2 set of lights. You can get 2 set of 4" = 4 tubes and it will fit nicely on our car. The TL doesnt have the trunk release button so they were able to fit just 2 tubes of 12". We cannot put the light straight through so you have to either put 1 tube on each side or buy 2 sets and put 2 tubes / side like I did.

it looks great, but too complicated
LEDs have strong brightness in certain direction , and this mod def. points out the fact that the whole back licence plate area is clear white.

i'll post up pics soon, but i just changed from 9 LED White) to 1 watt bulb (hi-powered white they call..)

i can guarentee it looks just like the pics we see here
it is clear white, spreading from the license plate area
i got it from Tec-Toyz for 8~10bucks. it is 10000 times better than the LEDs i had.
compared with the GS Lexus. about the same brightness, same color, same spreading range of light.
i am so satisfied with this bulb.
