K20A Valve Cover Install

Installed my JDM valve cover today here's some pics for the install

Remove the intake manifold cover and spark plug cover. Unclip the spark plug coils and pull them out.

Remove the 2 screws holding in the vaccuum hose to the cover. Remove bolt in upper left and remove cover. You have to jiggle and pull a hose out of the way to get it off. Here's the head.

Pull out the gasket and push it into the new cover. Replacing and voila:

good eye the spark plug cover wasn't actually attached in that pic. i have to stop by my dealer to pickup some new nuts and bolts since the valve cover requires slightly different hardware than the stock one.

i was hoping it'd be there beforehand, but it arrived at 8pm Sat. so I installed it Sunday. It might be slightly lighter, but its almost negligible

Just the cover? cools...I remember I saw someone else here did it before and he said something about how it's not a direct fit and some very minor work was needed. A myth eh?

no, its a perfect fit. you just need to buy 2 bolt caps because the jdm valve cover doesn't use all the same bolts as the OEM

Besides making your engine bay look better, what are the advantages of changing out of the stock valve cover?

personally I think someone should leave the valve cover and go with just the silver spark plug cover.

Those this cover increase your performance? If not, why waste 175 bucks on something you can't see unless you open your hood? Why not just paint the one you had red?

the valve cover is for looks only. if you dont see a reason to spend a couple hundred on doin this mod, then dont. there are plenty of members who like to show their car off, the valve cover is a finsih piece.

engine dress up. only enthusiasts will understand what that means.

and paint chips off btw.

There's no weight reduction?... Pixelharmony, doesn't even know how much a stock valve cover weighs...

The gasket on the old cover is rubber. I recommend just using some of the loose oil on the old cover to lube it (gasket) up, and then place it inside the new cover. You'll understand after you take it off, but no need to purchase a new one unless you break it somehow, which seems impossible to do.

You shouldn't need any type of sealant, and if there are torque specs, make sure to go by them, it's easy to strip or break the bolts.

for the 6 valve cover screws it says 8.7ft/lb for each nut. But there's an order it says to do. if the 6 bolts should be done in this order

___________
4 2 6
3 1 5
___________

the sparkplug cover is also 8.7ft/lb. FYI you need to buy 2 nut caps for the JDM valve cover since the sparkplug cover attaches slightly different. You can buy 2 more of the back caps that are on the OEM sparkplug cover, or you can do what I did and buy 4 of the silver caps used on the intake manifold cover and replace the OEM ones.

IMO the silver looks much much better than the black OEM ones, the part # is 90201-P8E-A00.

Good info Xizor. Wish I knew that before I installed mine, would've saved one broken bolt! Guess I'll know how to do it properly on the RSX though.

I agree about the silver caps. Looks much better. You can get away w/ buying only two, but you'll have two odd looking black caps mixed in with other silver ones.
