K&N Flat Element Filter

Hey All,

Do you guys beleive that adding a K&N filter is worth it?

Will it make the car a bit quiker and smoother than it already is?

What are your opinions?

I've removed my resonator and will add a K&N when the time comes to replace the stock filter. K&Ns good air filters so long as you clean them and don't over oil the filter element. I wouldn't got expecting to actually gain much from having it. I've already noticed my car is more "peppy" with the resonator off and expect a hair more with the K&N. However, I'm not doing 1/4 mile runs with my car; its a daily driver for me.

I just put my K&N filter in Monday. I can't say that I've noticed a whole lot of difference. It does seem to rev a little more freely above 4000 RPMs or so but, I wouldn't bet on it. It could just be my wallet telling me to feel something since I just spent the money on it! I haven't filled up since I've gotten it so I can't speak about any gas mileage difference. There is a very slightly different tone to the engine now. It sounds a touch more raspy than before. You'd be hard pressed to drive my car before and after the filter and notice really any difference. I don't expect it to do much for me. I just trust K&N with their filters as I've had them in my last 3 cars without any issues and never had to buy another filter in any of them. Sorry for the lack of info, but there just isn't a whole lot to say about it. I think it's worth it, but not for the performance gain alone. It's worth not changing the filter and the peace of mind that you have a quality air filter element in there. Anything else is icing to me.

Here are what I consider to be key points about it:

Little or no performance gain.
Minor intake sound change.
Little or no MPG change (probably).
Never replace another air filter.

I don't have a K&N in my TSX, but I have one in another vehicle. I agree that the performance gains are minimal at best. However, it certainly doesn't hurt and it has other advantages over paper filters :

1) It does a better job of filtering (cleaner air going into the engine).

2) It maintains a better airflow when dirty- doesn't clog up as much.

3) It doesn't need replacing. Cleaning is fast & easy once a year.
