K&N filters

K&N filters
Hello all,
Is it good idea to get the K&N filter and replace it with my stock filter while using stock intake. Would this increase the loudness of the intake and enhance performance? Thank You.

it wont be any louder but it will flow more air than your current filter. however; you will not notice any gain on the but dyno, and maybe if you dyno'd it 1hp if that. The best part of the K&N filter with the stock box is the fact it is cleanable so no more buying new air filters! If used with the CT ice box then you'd have a bit better gain, mainly from the intake.

I have the K&N filter in stock box but removed intake resonator. It won't get loud with the drop in filter unless you remove the intake resonator like i did. Video: Stock intake resonator removed
Yeah the best thing about the K&N filter is it is reuseable. You can buy the recharge kit cheaper than a stock air filter.

The only downside to K/N filters and recharge kit is it takes a while to get a return on your investment.
K/N filter: $32-$38
Recharge kit: $10-$14 (good for about 4-6 cleanings and oil recharges)
Totals: $42-$52
Compared to $18-20 for a regular paper filter changed every 20K-25K.
It will take you 2 - 4 years of driving just to break even on the purchase, depending on the amount of miles you drive per year (10K-20K per year).
I have K/N in both of my cars (6 years for the Accord, 1 year for the TSX) and I clean them twice a year in the spring/fall.

Yes you need to remove the resonator in order to have the sound. I didn't have the k&n filter when i shot the video. You can really hear it during WOT. Around 3k rpm you can still hear it slightly. Also you lose a little bit of weight because the intake resonator is huge.
