Just a little help please

I'm just jumping into messing around with my car (its been bugging me since the november meet in SoCal) and ive scoured the forum for answers but... I have some questions the search function isn't helping me with
(1) How does the stock intake work in relation to the resonator?
(2) If im looking to a short ram-like DIY type mod, what is the best way to secure a filter to the stock intake tube?
(3) What is the best way to direct airflow to a short ram?
(4) What is a "drop-in" filter setup?

I've ruled out a full CAI, and am thinking of the most economical solution to modding my intake...any help would be great! >>noob<<

The resonator is a plastic thing that blocks the air, remove it, more air flow, and more noise.

Use clamps, I guess. Those metel ones that people use to clamp hoses in the car.

Maybe a pipe from Home Depot, that flexed. Put it in the front of the car, where a lot of air will come from, and point it to the intake.

You put a filter into the stock box.

is it better to put the filter into the stock box, or remove the box and have the filter hang?

If you are talking about a CAI, then that is better because you have more cubic inches to draw from.

Regardless, you'll need to remove the resonator box which is behind the driver side front bumper... do a search if you haven't already and you'll find plenty of info about it.

Look for a thread by Peter_BigBlock. He did a DIY intake and has a good thread out there about it.

Scroll down and you will see all kinds of pictures of the resonator.

(2) If im looking to a short ram-like DIY type mod, what is the best way to secure a filter to the stock intake tube?

(3) What is the best way to direct airflow to a short ram?
Something custom fabricated most likely.

(4) What is a "drop-in" filter setup?
K&N into the OEM box replacing the OEM filter.

thanks thanks! sorry im so noob...just a quick follow up

In the link above, Kaikai removed the resonator chamber and the airinlet/Jtube. in that diagram, there are still two tubes Parts 9 and 10... do i do anything to those/ where do those go?

If you are talking about a CAI, then that is better because you have more cubic inches to draw from.
I'm a little confused by my searches... With the Filter up top, I'm looking a short ram set up? The options I see so far are attaching a cone filter like Peter_BigBlock or an icebox (with or without a lower air horn?) or a drop in filter in the filter box(cone or flat filter?) It seems like it would do little to replace the stock air intake tubing...
thanks!!!!

I really dont understand why people spend 30K on a car and then go ghetto/cheap on mods.

Dude, dont try to rig it like this. If you just buy an SRI setup, you wont even have to remove the resonator...

1. Comptech Ice Boc
2. K&N Inktake
3. Injen Inktake

or dont mod it. dont make some PVC pipe intake this isnt a civic

Also why have you ruled out a Cold Air Intake.

Not necessarly economical but called band for the buck mod.
My own experience with short ram, is that they usually lose low end torque, off the line power, where im think is most needed.
Since u are not in to CAI, then removing the resonator can be benificial then a short ram IMO. But can be complicated if u never done any DIY on ur car. For me , i took off the bumper for ease access, and it was pretty easy and fun job. Dont forget to get a flexible pipe to get air from behing the bumper.

I will consider a short ram only if i can somehow block the hot air under the hood.
