Injen CAI (Wow!?!?!?!)

I just installed my injen CAI. It is my second mod on the vehicle and I like the performance it has added to the car for an affordable price. The only problem I have is that it is too loud... Is there anything on the market that can reduce engine bay noise. I already hae a greddy Evo2 and that is loud enough, but with the Injen CAI too, it's way too loud. Any suggestions? ur

there is always going to be a trade off...you get the louder noise, but a less restricted air flow.

if you dont want the loud noise just stay off the gas (no WOT)

Anyone know of a pretty restrictive filter or anyother way to prevent engine bay noise from leaking into the cabin?

It annoys me that I went through all the trouble to install the CAI and now it's too loud. I want the HP gains, but not that piercing sound from the engine when I'm from 4000K-7100K RPM!

How about if you put some Dynmat or some other type of adhesive noise blocking material along the inside of the wheel well and on the pipe of the CAI itself?

hmmm... take off the exhaust?... or get a icebox...

you can deal with the constant noise coming from the exhaust but you can't deal with the intake?

if you wanted quiet maybe you should of went comptech all the way.. u want quiet then u will not get much gain, but seems like u want the gain so suck it up and stick with the noise you have now...

Eventhough I made a joke, I'm serious if you want to trade.

I think if you add some more insulation (dynamat, cascade, etc) to the hood of your car it might help. http://www.dynamat.com/auto_hood.htm The ultimate solution will be to just lay off the gas a little..

Yeah, there's no real solution as far as I know. It doesn't bother me at all, I personally love the sound, and if I don't want to hear it I just don't floor it - still sounds close to stock when you're not WOT.

Wear earplugs
Turn the radio louder
Have windows up

Seriously, I personally LOVE the sound of my CAI. When you aren't going WOT, it should be quiet enough.

If it irritates you that badly, just go with a drop-in air filter or icebox. I can't imagine how irritated you'd be when driving a Ferrari. Vrrrrrroooooooom!

Sorry for the ignorant post....I have been here long enough to know most of the acronyms used. But this one escapes me. What does "WOT" stand for?

BTW, I got my K&N Typhoon CAI yesterday and I can't wait to have it installed. I had one in my RSX-S and the sound didn't bug me one bit. In fact, I'd push it just to hear the growl. These Honda engines love it!

I have to agree with Black6spd...there is a reason professional race cars and high-end performance cars are that loud. Its the price you pay for the power you are getting. In fact, what you should realize is the quieter the noise, the more power you are sacrificing. Most quiet cars are not living up to their potential in an effort to reduce noise.

^^ WOT = Wide Open Throttle.

As for the noise. You'll get use to it man. When cars are getting out of your way when they hear you coming, you'll learn to love it I use to think it was a little too loud at first, but now I actually like it a lot. I like the fact that I can be quiet when I want too, or loud when I want to. I had someone at the stoplight tell me the other day after we exited the freeway that the TSX engine sounded sweet when I passed him going 90 at WOT.

Thanks, that is all I needed, you can close the thread if you please... I think I'm going to wait a little: see if the E.C.U. adjust anymore, then if it doesn't I'll just live with it. I'm starting to get used to the sound more and more everyday...

Myth. The ECU dosent adjust to anything after you put an intake on, according to JTso, who of course is always right on things like this.

How often do you get up in the 4-7k RPM anyways? When you drive, you are in cruising speed most of the time so it should be around 2.5-3.5k RPM, especially if you have an auto. It'll only be loud when you're accelerating hard and have to go past 4k RPM, then I don't see anything wrong with being a lil bit loud in that situation.

I think I remember JTso saying that it does adjust, but there is no need to reset in order for that adjust to happen...but maybe he can clear that up for us

In addition, TOV has dyno evidence from their AEM SRI testing that the ECU does indeed adjust. Their 1st few runs after actually showed loss of power. My seat-of-the-pants dyno told me the same after installing my CAI... Then again, I had a leak.

Exerpt from article:
"Using my OBD-II tool, I reset the code and we made another pass (the same thing could be accomplished by pulling the fuse to the ECU and resetting it). This time the results were much better, beating the baseline by several hp. We made another pass and the car picked up a few more hp. The ECU was "learning" about the additional air the intake was providing. I decided to run the car "free" on the rollers for a few minutes to allow it to "learn" more about the additional air and make the proper fuel trim adjustments.

After this "learning period", we made another dyno pass and the car again made a bit more power. Subsequent runs were consistent with this pass so we decided that it had stabilized. The result? A peak of 185.7hp to the wheels, and 159.6 lb-ft of torque. According to our dyno runs, a bit of torque is lost below about 3000 rpms, but at 3300 rpms it starts making more torque (and thus power) than stock, and it continues delivering more power all the way to the 7300 rpm rev limiter. The peak gain is 8.2hp but peak torque is only up by about 1.7 lb-ft.
"

Yes, you are correct. What TOV reset was the CEL. I can see why the lower number with the CEL on. Btw, TOV didn't reset the ECU, only the code by the OBD2 scan tool. They also mention the ECU made the adjustment automatically.
