Injen CAI longevity

Okay I'm about to dive head first intall my first DIY car mod. I'm wanting to install the Comptech rear sway bar and the Injen cold air intake. Being quoted around $200 for "professional" install made me rethink how handy I could be so I decided to try it myself. But messing around in the engine bay is kinda freaking me out but I've seen enough threads here to think I will manage okay.

I had a question on the intake though. What kind of life expectancy should I expect from the cai? Is it a part that needs to be replaced every few years or could it last the life of the car?

The most you might have to replace is the cone. Usually a good cleaning is all that is needed. How often is beyond me, never had a car with a CAI long enough to worry about it.

I've had a cai on my 2000 Si for 5 years now and the only maintenance I had to do was clean the filter. It should definitely last the life of the engine. Like cmf said, the only thing you might run into is replacing the filter after 2 or 3 cleanings, but that's like after 100-150k. No need to worry.

Yeah clean the filter every so often, my friends celica had a nasty black filter (was a red K&N), after he got a new one his car felt a lot faster.

Hey thanks guys! Looks like I'll be getting my hands dirty next weekend!

About the cleaning the filter, when run in cai mode where is that? Is the filter (the groved paper thingy sticking out when in sri mode?) stuck on the inside somewhere?

I suppose it might more sense on how I should clean or change it when I actually have it in my hands?

This is the filter:

To clean it, purchase this stuff:

When you're in CAI mode, you'll need to remove the filter to clean it.
