Hood struts

Does anyone know a source for hood struts/shocks or whatever they may be called? I have always hated the solid brace that Hondas use.

You could always try retrofitting the ones from the TL.

I open mine at least once a week. Gotta keep it clean (engine bay), especially in the damn desert, always getting dirty.

strut that automatically holds the hood up, so that you don't have to pull up the stick thing to wedge it when you open the hood.

Lots of cars have that.. even the Accords.

they're also something that tend to break (i've been told) which is one explanation to why honda just stick's w/ the tried and true pole

So true... My Maxima's struts didn't last very long... When I was refilling wiper fluid, the damn hood just fell on my head.

The Accord V6 uses hood struts - use them.

oh! he's talkin about the shocks that keep the hood open? i hate those things. they do die. id rather have the traditional stick to hold up the hood, i'm always nervous looking under the hood of a car that has the shocks.

It's not a bad question though. Most people don't open their hoods more than a couple times a year, so is reaching for that support pole really that big a deal? And to put it in perspective, even the Enzo doesn't have struts.

You're not exactly most people. Sometimes I wonder if you're even people.

I was being a smartass but its a legitimate question. I can understand CMF, dzuy and myself getting in the engine bay often, just wondering about the original poster.

Oh wait, you're being serious about the cleaning thing...

I agree, but again, your average driver only looks in the engine bay when something is wrong. Otherwise, they'll probably never open it. I'm one of those people who checks all my fluids whenever I get gas, so I open the hood quite a bit, but even then I don't find the rod a problem. It does tend to get hot if you've been driving for a while though.

Those gas shocks that prop the hood open are not very reliable. They often fail when you least expected. Just imagine working under the hood and the damn hood falls on your head or on parts you placed on top of the engine. That will change your mind really quick about wanting those gas shocks.

Only because they're from Tein. It does go hand-in-hand because they make struts and shocks and whatnot, but I guess a better word would've been "unexpected."
