HELP!!! In middle of comptech shortshifter install

The infamous hard to remove shift cable clip will not come off!!!! I was prying that thing for over an hour, I can't seem to get it off with any pair of plier and flat screwdriver I have.

ANY IDEAS!!!!??? I'm driving my car now without anything covering the shifter. How did some of you guys get it off? any tricks? special tools?

a reminder in case some forgot:

thanks, please help.

I never got it off. there was enough room for me to put my hand under the housing. I used the neuspeed way. If I am not mistaken.

I was thinking about it, but how would you ever get that white ball off the bottom?

I too used the Neuspeed instructions. It was annoying to try to work under that housing with very limited space but I got it to work. There's a decent thread here about it:

I tried the wrench as recommended in the Neuspeed instructions with no luck. I finally got it to work using a screwdriver head digging as hard as I could into the crevace formed between the metal ball end and the plastic ball. Was pretty worried I would break it, but I'm with the others here; I don't think the thing can be broken.

I used a really big screwdriver, prying from the bottom of the clip; I used the top of the base as the pry point, and I had to pry all the way up. When I first started prying, I thought I was doing something wrong, that I was prying on something that couldn't move. The angle I attacked it from is basically the same as the angle of this pic from xizor..

I busted a lifetime-warrantied chrome-vanadium screwdriver trying to pry that clip off. Finally just got the white ball off w/o taking that clip off. To get the white ball off, get a 13mm wrench, and take your time making sure that the flat-area of the top of the ball is resting on the edges of the wrench.

Use a strong, warrantied wrench.

Then use the housing as leverage and pull like a MOFO. It works in seconds if you have the wrench and the ball lined up together.. if the wrench is touching the round part of the ball, it wont work.

Really easy once you look at it and get it lined up, trust me.

I will attack this problem tomorrow in day light. I was actually getting ready to go out and work on it, but realized when I got outside it's way too dark. I think I'm gonna go with removing the ball from the bottom. I don't want to try to take that clip off anymore, it's all ugly now. Oh well.

Hopefully tomorrow, when I post again everything will be done.

Yup, that's the way to do it. You'll feel like you're breaking it, but it should come off clean

IT'S IN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Went to work today and bailed our early to come home and work on my car. Went through the bottom. I used a 7/18 wrench at first with no luck. 1/2 inch though...... worked like a charm. that ball came off in seconds! So it's all good and done. Comptech needs to change their instructions. Also installed my passport hardwire while everything was out. Will post all pics later.

Oh yea, I love it!!!! it almost feels like the shift was reduced by half.
