Fram SureDrain Failues

I have spoken with a number of auto parts dealers in the Phoenix area and all of them have pulled the SureDrain system from their shelves as there have been numours failures of the valves resulting in engine damage/loss.
Does anybody on this site use it, I had bought one but never installed it.

I installed one at my last oil change........ but haven't used it yet. My next change is coming up in about a week or so. I'll post how it works for me............ That's all I need is a problem with that thing. I kept the original drain plug. But hope the Suredrain works. Thanks for the post.

I used it for a couple of oil changes. The first change was fine. The second oil change had a leak. When I opened the Cap, oil was dripping. I junked it completely. Went back to the old way of changing oil. Also with the sure drain it does not drain all the oil completely. I waited till the oil stop dripping, before I removed the sure drain. After the removal of sure drain you could still see a good deal of oil dripping.

I think sure drain is a hit or miss, but after it failed for me I did bother with it.

I'll have to check the drip after doing a change or two. Thanks for the info!!

I never did like the Suredrain and the design. That is one area you can't afford to have it failed.

I was just reading up on this the other day. Seemed like there was a lot of praise for the SureDrain but I guess its not that good. I'm taking my baby to the dealership this Monday to get the oil changed. I'll learn how to do it myself next Spring.

Walmart will change your oil for less than the dealer and use far better Mobile Syntec oil

Don't drain your oil... suck it out. No jacks, no plug to remove, no mess..

The Advance Auto Parts by me is still selling them. Fram is still advertising them on their web site. I installed one at 10k miles. When I changed it at 15K there were no signs of leaking. I've thought about removing it out of paranoia of failure and this thread seems to reinforce that. Guess I'll decide in the next ~1200 miles before my 20k change. I guess it's really not that much of an aid, you still have to make a big mess getting the filter off, so I think it doesn't really save you much.

Is that only with the one made my Fram? I think there is another original one that's "supposed" to be better. Does this apply to that one too?

Sucking it out works, you don't get all the oil out but you get most of it. Still have to change the filter, though. I've used the oil-removal pump that I have for my boat -- no way to drain the oil there! -- on my TSX and it works fine, pulls the oil right up the dipstick tube. I may relocate my filter to the engine compartment and make changing super-easy. Anyone know if there's a kit to relocate the filter?

I think sure drain is a hit or miss, but after it failed for me I did bother with it.
Did my oil change this past weekend and didn't notice any type of leaks.
