As soon as my clutch goes, I have a lightweight flywheel going in with the clutch replacement. I will look for a FW that will tolerate a stock clutch though.

which ones have you been looking at?

i know comptech has one, but i'm not gonna go after it.

fidenza is most likely in my future, once my clutch goes.

I haven't started looking into it as of yet. My clutch doesn't seem like it's gonna go anytime soon.

ACT Clutch? If you don't plan on dragging a lot I'd say it'll put a lot of strain on your leg. Get the Exedy.

is your clutch slipping? I would think one would need an aftermarket one unless they were putting too much power down or it was worn.

When driven right, clutches should last in the areas of 200,000 miles and up.

Do you guys think that a lightened flywheel on a 5AT would cause problems due to the parasitic drag of the TC? It idles at least 1k lower with the trans in gear so I'm thinking that with less of an inertia buffer between the engine and trans, the risk of stalling would be greater. Mostly when coming to a stop before the idle throttle can advance enough to compensate for the load of being in gear at a complete stop.

There is no flywheel or a very small one on 5ATs. The one I had on my Accord when it was an AT weighed more or less one pound.

not when you take it to 7600 rpm in a hondata'ed tsx

I currently have 185 000 on my 300zx clutch and it hasn't even started to chatter yet. I imagine I should easily get 200 000. So at 5300 miles you've got a long way to go before you start worrying about your clutch, unless you don't know how to use it.

No flywheel for the AT, just the gear ring for the starter. Here is a diagram of both the MT and AT clutch and torque converter setup.

Interesting. I wonder how they keep the engine turning smoothly between power strokes without a flywheel unless there's just a lot of internal inertia.

The torque converter weighs at least as much as the flywheel, if not more, so it acts the same way.

just keep launching your car at 7000 with the vsa off.

then redline every gear and slowly ease off the clutch.

you'll need a new clutch in no time!

i hope no one really does this. haha
