Which is faster? 5AT or 6MT?

I was asking the dealer that very question when i test drove it. He told me the AT was slightly faster then the MT. Whether this is true or not is another question, so like he said, where are those 0-60 times.

Shorter (numerically higher) gears mean more torque at the wheels (i.e. it's easier for the car to move itself). Also notice that all 6 gears on the manual are "inside" of the AT's 5th gear. That means there's much less RPM falloff in every shift. On top of that MTs are more mechanically efficient. Plus the MT weighs less. There you have it.

Oh yeah, the final drive ratio is also shorter (numerically higher) in the manual (4.76 vs 4.44). This means that the differences in gear ratios are amplified a little bit more in each and every gear. If anyone else tells you that the auto is faster, slap them in the face. Thanks. :P

I just got a 6MT Carbon Gray/Quartz last night!!! Before that I have been doing a lot of research online and here's some 0-60 numbers:

The dealer I went to had 3 new TSXs come in yesterday...out of 6 only 1 was 6MT and it was CG. talk about lucky, but it didn't have Navi so no navi 4me...but they had a CG spoiler in stock they were planning to put on so that's being but on right now...cant wait to pick it up tonite...feel like a little kid on xmas eve...
other two was a silver/black AT and black/black AT w/navi...it's Courtesy Acura in Sanford, FL if anyone is in the market...talk to Robert Rosser...

Man, it's a shame how uninformed alot of these salesman out there are. I don't know how somebody can take pride in the product they sell without knowing it thoroughly. I've even encountered salesman who don't even know the horsepower ratings on the car they were trying to sell me. Damn shame.

Yeah, the sad fact of the matter is that selling cars is just another RETAIL job. 9 out of 10 car salesmen (and women) don't know jack about the product they are selling. I used to work in a shoe store when I was in high school and people would ask me RIDICULOUS questions about shoes. Crap like, "What's a good running shoe?" or "Do you think my kid will grow out of these in a year?" I was like, "How the heck should I know? I'm just some 17 year old kid making minimum!" When you shop for shoes you don't expect the person in the store to b a shoe expert, but when people shop for cars they expect the sales person to know their stuff. What a joke! It's just retail!
Anyway, if you are a true gearhead you should be able to walk on to any car lot and ASTOUND the dealer with your knowledge of the car, wether it's a Dodge Ram or a VW Passat.

While I disagree that car selling is just like any other retail job (like selling shoes or vacuum cleaners or whatever) I must agree that a majority of car salespeople do not know their product as well as the average informed internet shopper.
While shopping for a new car, more than half of the salesmen I talked to did not know their product, and some even ignorantly misrepresented it (or made false claims about its competition).
A small number of salesmen were honest with me about their lack of knowledge, but were "more than happy to find out for me". It was these salesmen whom I respected. I appreciate a salesman who acknowledges he's clueless about the product (either because he's new to car sales or because he hasn't been fully trained on the newest model yet), but is eager to learn, even so much as learning from a well-informed gearhead-type buyer!
Anyway, I'm sure you do a very diligent job of knowing your product (and I hope it makes you a more successful salesman!), but the same cannot be said of the majority of car salespeople I've encountered.

Hey, I didn't say ALL car salesmen didn't know their product, I said 9 out of 10 don't. Now as far as selling cars being a retail job... well it SHOULDN'T be considered one, but the 9 out of 10 salesmen treat it as one.
