Exhaust bypass anyone?

How about hooking up an exhaust bypass controller via a Y-pipe just before the muffler section. Additionally, wire a rpm switch to activate the exhaust bypass when the rpm reaches to a certain point or use the manual toggle switch to bypass the mufflers for max HP gain?

Here is the Y-pipe and controller...

Here is a typical setup...

Here is the rpm switch... Btw, you can also get the adjustable rpm pill.

Here is where you can get the bypass controller...

So what is this exactly, just a sneaky way to drive around making more noise?

How Significant could the HP gains even be...besides the fact its prob not legal, but whatever that dosent bother me too much

well loudness aside, will the 4cyc. engine actually benefit from a cutout? A bigger exhaust gives 1-2hp, I can't imagine the cutout's gains being that great. I usually picture them on boosted cars somebody try it and dyno it.

I also think it's more beneficial to a boosted engine, perhaps in the higher rpm range. Just imagine being able to maintain low end torque during normal driving and the option to a full open exhaust at higher rpm when needed!

Let's see... just looking over the Summit Racing catalog...

Bypass controller on ebay = $175
Y-pipe from Summit = $56
Welding labor = $25 - $35

Optional rpm switch from Summit = $62 or the magneto version = $66

So, you are looking at approx. $260 + the optional rpm switch. Not cheap but the surprised look on the driver's face whom you are racing is priceless!

Combined with a good header and CAI, I wouldn't be surprised to see a net of +20.

Single, it could still be good for close to +10 is my guess..

i would think it is, considering that most of the upgrades so far only produced single number benefits or teens at the most.......

isnt someone on here using the TSX as a project car? or just something to toy with? (im probably wrong tho)
