dzuy's hondata review.

i got my car back a day early!

well - i'm going to be perfectly honest. hondata is great at 5k rpm and up. but let's start with the beginning.

at low rpms - the extra torque makes the car feel even smoother than it already does. it doesn't feel any faster at anything less than 4500 rpm. but as you climb through past the 4000-4500 mark, the car gradually starts to pull hard. once the tach reaches 5k, the tsx is simply bad ass the engine growls hard all the way to the 7500-7600 rpm redline.

my car sounds different at full throttle now - it sounds more pissed off. you know why? b/c it is. i swear - cars just seem to be in the way tonight.

the throttle response feels ALOT quicker - none of that delay crap from the DBW. i wonder if hondata even messed with that at all. it sure feels like they did.

highlights:
i was cruising on a local highway, maybe about 55 or 60 - downshifted to third - before hondata - the car would hesitate. after hondata - the car jerks you back in your seat and simply GOES.

the most exciting part tonight was the first time i took my car to 7600 rpm. oh my god. that's all i could think. was oh my god. and once i started i couldnt stop.

1st gear - 7600
2nd gear - 7600
3rd gear - 7600.

it's true, the transistion to vtec at 5k is so smooth, but it's def. there. the tach moves alot quicker to redline than before. no doubt about it.

i'm supposed to get dynoed on sat - but i might cancel b/c i have an exam to study for this thurs and to be honest with you - i still feel like the wheels are holding me back. i'm so tempted to get some 17inch wheels before i go dyno.

is it worth it? shoot - one run pass 5k and you can decide for yourself. i wish there was more power on the bottom end - but oh well - the car is def alot faster than it was before.

good job hondata.

normal driving - you really wont be able to notice that anything is different - with the exception of the car driving smoother and the quicker throttle response.

WOT - the feeling is incredible.

i have no regrets.

Oh man... that review reminded me of my '98 lude, VTEC kicks in at 5k rpm, sweet!!! I am definitely sure Hondata K24B is even SWEETER than that stock H22B in the VTEC zone.

Just hope Hondata will resolve the reflash problem with the '05 MT ECU soon...

Just to keep you awake for a little longer

You said there's not much gain at low-end, but there's no loss either, is there?

nope. you cant tell any real power difference on the low end.

except like i mentioned earlier - the improved torque improves smoothness of the car at lower rpm (under 4k)

Congrats!!!! Dyno with the 19's and the 17's I think you will dyno higher with 19's. Lighter weight and less rotational mass. YES they are bigger so it takes them longer per revolution to turn. BUT less rotating mass=more power. Try it and either prove me right or wrong. I also think that the reason your 19's is slowing you down is your tires. Toyo's suck...no offense. But I think you should have good numbers with the 19's. I am not a wheel guy I am a turbo guy im just guessin on this so guys don't flame me on this. But I would really like to see 2 dyno's from your car 19's and stocks or other rims. Show me the money DZUY!!!

Damn you, I want Hondata. Maybe if I ace my midterm I'll treat myself to it. Too bad my setup is with just CAI and probably won't get the results you did.

Considering Hondata is located in Torrance, CA, I find it hard to believe that they would develop something that wouldn't meet Cali's strict emissions standards. Wouldn't worry about it.

increased smoothness in the low end = more torque. It may not be a huge difference but any increase is great, especially for us autos!

Hondata stated on their site that the reflash is definately smog legal. They said they've tested it with very minimal changes in emissions.

im actually trying to find someone with a digi camcorder.

i have a digi cam that has really poor resolution. maybe i'll use that for the time being.

too bad it's rainy outside so i'm not goin to do right now.

maybe i'll use dan martins in car camera technique.

This is what you need. All my auto-x and track day in-car videos were using something similar to this. Unfortunately, my site is down now due to many people downloading videos from my site. It'll be back up on April 1st (or if I pay extra for more bandwidth, it'll be back up earlier).

Sorry for the .

BTW, very nice review. I really want the Hondata also.

This may be a silly question but...
If I get my ECU reflashed, is it possible to get it put back to stock setting?
Not that I'd want to, but what if I needed to go back to stock because of warranty issues.

Yes, it will fit. I tried it in my TSX already.

Before Chase Cam developed the headrest Cruise Cam mount, I designed one and had it custom fabricated. At the time, my design was to fit in both my Prelude and my Integra. Well, the Integra is gone and I have a TSX now. Found out that my design didn't fit in the TSX. But I was too lazy to re-design another one. Then Chase Cam came up with theirs, so I bought one and test fitted in both my Prelude and my TSX. It works on both.

Again, unfortunately my site is down now. In my Video page, the first 3 videos were taken with the Chase Cam mount, and the rest of the videos were taken with my custom designed one. I'll see if I can get my web hosting company to give me more bandwidth.
