My friend, who baught the COMPTECH header, has had no problems at all and raves about the immeadeate power as he accelerates. I can't understand why one would go through the trouble... DC is permenantly taken of my buy list----> FOREVER!

Out of curiosity, do you want to put the heatshield back after installing the header?
Or does it really make no difference?
Since the header really isn't visible, do you think this would make sense?

Aftermarket headers don't usually provision for the factory heatshield. However, the heatshield does lower the temp in the engine compartment, not just for looks. I had to custom made one.

so JTso do you have a picture of where the points are that I need to get welded by the shop if I happen to purchase this header to hold over till I can afford the maxim work header.

Here are the pics from the welds that were done on my header. Cost me $10 at the local muffler shop. The welds have held up well, we inspected them when we put my cat on last Friday. I've had them about 10 months now.

I just answered my own question from a year ago. It took me quite a bit longer than the average 2-3 hours but this was my first ever header install.
I tried to install it as a single piece but couldn't get enough clearance underneath to get the header into place. The right lower exhaust manifold bolt was painful to remove.
I'm happy with the gains. The hissing sound isn't too bad and no leaks! The pull at Vtec is nice and complements the UR pulleys.
Thanks to JTso and Tsx536 for their detailed instructions.

[quote=forestsoft;9342356]Theses are some nice gains, and are well worth the install.
I know heat is a factor, for maximizing engine performance.
I do not want to introduce, any more heat in the engine bay if possible.
So I may try a mod to the new pipe:
It looks like from the pictures that the mounting point for the heat shield from the old pipe can be cut off , and re-welded on to the new upper header base plate. The heat shield may be lower, but it still should help engine bay temp, and keep heat from the other engine components.
Or maybe some type of modified heat shield, if needed.
Using the base bolts, on the upper header section.
Just use Header wrap, no need to fabricate.

I have had my DC Sport header for a few months and I am very happy with the purchase and gains. I have accepted the fact that I may have to spend $150 some time in the future to fix the flex pipe, but for $311 it was a good bang for the buck.
I wrapped mine with the "titanium" wrap and I have not had any problems but I also like your creative approach to mounting a heat shield.
