Cross Drilled Rotors Installed.

Thanks to cmf, I got a set of Stoptechs for the front and Rotoras for the rear. Finished the install this afternoon. I'm glad I did this myself as I learned a lot about the braking system. Took about 6 hours total, going really slow. I would feel complely confident now changing pads when the time comes.

I didnt change the pads, but on my test runs, I noticed quite a difference in stopping. Very impressed...Another 15K and I'll change the pads with Hawk or EBC's

Here are some pics:

But, seriously. Do they just stop shorter than the stock rotors? Initial bite better? More linear? Were your OEM's warping?

Initial bite is margnally better, I think better brake pads would fix that. But, once they grab, they definatly stop shorter then the oem's. I was suspecting warped rotors because I was getting a wheel shake during hard breaking. So far so good with these.

Actually, its a good thing these are the stock size b/c I was watching a show where they installed a BBK on an RSX and it did reduce the whp even though the BBK was lighter (I think it was 5-7 whp). Centrifical (sp?) forces of the larger rotor reduced whp b/c it took more force to move the weight which was further outside than the stock rotors.

Keep us up to date joe!!

why didn't you get the cross-drilled and slotted rotors?

i had a cross drilled/slotted brembo blanks on my old 96 civic ex..and that thing gave me tremendous stopping power...but it also locked up my tires fast...haha no abs.

Making sure I did this right was hard enough. So no, I didnt replace the lines. However, I might consider it when I bleed the brakes at 30K.

Ok, well here is the best I could do. I took larger pics of the whole car, but the file size was just too big for imageshack. So I just took half and resized...

I almost bought those from CMF. Glad the rotors stayed in the acurazine family though

I had enough pad left so I really didnt think it was necessary. And since the rotors were already grooved from cmf's use, the pads seemed to seat fine. Breaking is smooth.

I have noticed that these rotors rust a lot more after a wash then the stocks do. But it all comes off after a quick drive...

wait, you reduced the breaking surface without increasing the gripping power of the pads so logically you should only notice a change in high speed sustained braking that causes high rotor temperatures. All other braking performance should be compromised

...or am I missing something?

I guess on paper that makes sense. Havent had a chance yet to take it through the canyons and see if breaking changes from the top or bottom of the mountain. I noticed fading with the stocks so I should be able to tell the diff...

However, unless its subconscious, breaking during normal driving is better if not the same then with the stock rotors. It most definitely isnt worse, or I would have noticed.

Nice rotors, although I'm not a fan of cross-drilled, prefer slotted.

Also noticed that many people spell "breaking" when it should be "braking"......

Well, if you look at the very first post, I spelt it correctly. Don't know how or why my spelling changed from then to now. But thanks for catching it spelling police!

Doh! It was late and after a full day of skiing...lame excuse, I know.

I do actually know how to spell and I hope I'm not going to be cast as the young, moronic and uneducated kid now.

I'm glad you had that outcome with the new rotors, now just think about what you'll get with aggressive pads!

I think I'm set on the EBC Green Stuff. I'll let the stocks wear out before I do.

Yeah man, I changed out my whole brake setup last year with Rotora slotted, Axxis Ultimates and Goodridge SS lines - no regrets except that the Axxis pads squeal like a pig. I'll probly use Green Stuff next time I change the pads - I've heard nothing but good things about them.

I might do the SS lines as well when I change the pads and bleed the system...
