Comptech Ice Box and Hondata Heatshield installed

A big thanks goes out to Jtso for spending a couple of hours installing my modifications.

I decided to be different than everybody else and get the ice box. I wanted to keep a stock look but improve performance. The ice box is bigger than the stock air box and has increased air volume with no restrictions in the box itself. The resonator was replaced with a lower airhorn to draw cold air in just like a CAI.

I definitely have noticed better throttle body response and a smooth growl at WOT. It definitely sounds more aggressive but it not noisy in normal driving. The ice box paired with the Hondata Heatshield and Jtso throttle body bypass has improved the torque. I definitely need to do a dyno to see what positive results I gained.

Modifications to be installed...

Side by Side comparison...

OEM stock lid, notice all the restrictive parts in the box...

Comptech Ice Box lid...

Final product...

Looks good, I plan to get that too!!

Does the ice box uses the OEM lower air box and the OEM filter??

It uses the OEM lower air box but comes with a reuseable foam filter.

sigmachi, could you post an audio clip of the icebox?

i'm thinking of ghetto'ing it by removing the resonator, and dremeling out the fins on the oem airbox

I'll see what I can do about getting an audio clip.

Hopefully I'll get the same results from the Comptech Dynos especially with the heatshield.

You posted two torque curves.

But just looking at the torque: Only a 5lb-ft max gain. But with a dip at 1700-2100 AND 2700-3200? Hmmmm...

Maybe I'm out on a limb here, but couldn't one just alter the stock box with say a Dremel, by removing the "internal" plastic pieces that are absent on the Comptech box? Or is there something else to the design I can't make out on these pictures...

Might be an easy diy.

Hmm, max gain 5.6hp all the way up at redline. How much was the Icebox?

The Comptech lid is slightly bigger and it is fully sealed. If you take the stock one out, you'll notice a slight gap where the intake hose would connect. You'll have to spend a lot of time to make the box smooth as well as make a snorkel into the intake box.

You must then buy a better filter (ie K&N). I guess you could do this and come close to the same results.

So +6.2HP max (6700 RPM). This seems to be a little bit better than what just the resonator removal mod does for you. Probably b/c of the different filter/box design. Cool.

I got it from a local dealership as a bundled Comptech deal (Ice Box, Rear Sway and Front Strut). If I broke it out individually I think it came out to $140.

If I was to do a dyno, I would probably get slightly better results as I also I have the Hondata Heatshield.

Since I don't have someone readily available to sit in the car with me while driving at WOT, here are clips from the clubrsx boards that will give you an idea of the sound I am hearing.

No, we did the K&N and Injen CAI method of removing the left front tire and going thru the wheel well. You could remove the front bumper per Comptech's instruction but you'll save a lot of time just following the directions from K&N and Injen. You would also remove the front left fog light cover for additional access to the stock parts.

Thanks I just ordered it. I like the close to stock look and the gains.
