Closest to Stock Sounding Air Intake?

What is the closest to sounding like stock and yet providing some solid improvement?

I don't like the sound of the Injen although I hear it is the best from a performance standpoint.

I'm told the Icebox is a bit quieter. Can someone confirm this is the quietest of the big 3, Fujita (however you spell it), Injen, and Icebox?

----------------
I plan on picking up an air intake and a progress sway bar and taking them to a mechanic tellin him to install cause I'm a noob when it comes to installin these things.

What else would be a good sub-$400 upgrade to have the mechanic install besides the sway bar and air intake?

I'm looking for best bang for the buck but I'm also looking to keep the look and sound of the TSX the same as stock pretty much. Just improve handling and speed or anything else the TSX lacks.

Yeah, icebox is definitely teh quieter of them. I have both the Icebox and Injen.

did you notice a performance difference between the stock vs injen vs icebox?

Is the diff between the injen and icebox considerable?

I basically like to accellerate fast, but I keep it under 70mph for the most part.

So I'd like to get from 0-60 faster...

If you're looking for fast 0-60 times, then you definitely bought the wrong car...

Unless you invest thousands of $$$, I doubt you'll notice much more than a few tenths of a second improvement in acceleration (if that).

By itself, an intake will give you better throttle response (moreso with the Icebox) and possibly a few hp.

It really is a good bang-for-the-buck mod. It will free up your engine a little bit, but IMO it won't be a night/day difference.

Most people usually start with the intake as their first mod, but make additional upgrades later on. If you go further to an intake+header+reflash combo, that's when you will start to notice more significant gains. However, this will cost just north of $1k (assuming you go with a cheaper header) and it won't affect your acceleration so much as your midrange power.

The Rear Sway Bar, and the Intake are by far the Best Bang for the Buck Mods... So Id go with those as you said before

The Icebox is quite a bit more civilized in sound then the Full blown CAI's most of us run, On the other forum there was a member who called the CAI an Angry Elephant, in comparison with his Ice>Box, I always thought that was a pretty great analogy...

In your sub-$400 price category the intake and sway bar are a good combo. For an additional $200 I would highly recommend a hondata reflash. And, I agree, the Icebox will be the closest to OEM sounding. Any intake mod will be louder than stock at high RPMs though.

Icebox. Its a good first 'taste' as a mod. The Injen was my first intake, and I swapped to Comptech Icebox to get it quieter for daily driving.

You really should try to do the install yourself through, especially with the icebox and rear sway bar. You can do them both in just a few hours, having never ever done anything to a car before. Trust me, that was my situation! Those were my first and second ever mods, and I've done lots more since then.

If noise is a big concern though you might as well leave the intake alone... or perhaps do the tweaks that JTso recommended to the inside of the filter box.

the only cheap headers out there are obx and dc sport which the quality i feel is horrible. he should really save his money after he gets the intake and get comptech headers. then maybe after that a catback system and he will definately feel a difference. but his gas mileage will start to suffer.

Well, since he's looking to gain performance while preserving the stock sound, I definitely would not recommend a cat-back exhaust system as even the quieter ones like the Fujitsubo exhaust is louder than stock.

Instead, I'd go for a RT Cat. When combined with an intake and header, it'll provide more significant gains at a cheaper cost. Noise will also be augmented less than an exhaust system.

if you dont want anything loud, dont get a cold air intake.

an icebox could be close to stock. but you might be better off getting a reflash from hondata

Since it's a relatively cheap performance mod that does sound very close to stock, I'd still recommend getting an Icebox. You can order it from Excelerate (check the Sponsored Sales forum in the Black Market).

As far as other mods you can add, it all really depends how deep your pockets are and how far you're willing to go...

On the auto the loss in low end torque was noticeable to me on the Injen. It had a little more kick on the midrange/top end, but you had to rev it to really feel the power and get moving. The Injen was pretty loud, so I kinda got tired of making a lot of noise even when my car wasn't even moving all that fast.

The icebox is the perfect intake for me. It has a louder growl than stock when you rev it up, but sounds close to stock on the low end.

Topspeed also makes a cheap TSX header.

Do a search for comments on this...

As for the intake, yeah, if you don't want it ANY louder than stock, just do minor tweaks, like putting in a drop-in K&N filter, mod the box, etc., and just be aware that it might not make much of a difference.

If you don't want noise, keep your car stock in terms of parts and get the Hondata reflash instead.

The Icebox link isn't working for me.

I can't believe how much I'm waffling on this decision. I want the header for sure and the CAI, just to extract everything out of my reflash, but the noise issue is holding me up a bit. That vid of the Apexi SRI is pretty damn loud.

i hear and see that injen and fujita are only loud if you go over a certain rpm, is this the same with AEM and K&N?? I hear Comptech isnt as loud, or so i read.

agh, decisions... I had the AEM in my MR2 and Injen in my Accord ... i think I might go with Fujita on my TSX ... just try them ALL out LOL

With most of the intakes, it's only loud when you use full throttle. At partial throttle, they don't sound that loud but they are still a different sound from stock.

If you need an Icebox PM me. The Comptech Icebox will be the closest intake to stock, in terms of subtlety and sound. It gives a good 5 hp throughout much of the RPM's.
