you guys are making this much more complicated than it really is. If you never will consider putting the oem cat back on, just do it the easy way and spend 160 and get yourself a high-flow cat at any muffler shop.

If you really want to keep the stock cat, then just keep the cat after they cut it off, and later on if you want it back on, just cut off the highflow cat and put the oem back on.

Noise will be increased a little with a highflow cat, a bit deeper but louder. Its easier to hear at lower rpms than before. But in the case of a testpipe/resonator, im sure it will make it alot louder, maybe even a bit raspy.

IMO i feel the gains were worth the money. Especially now, how the header and high flow cat completely fixed the hesitation i used to feel at vtec with hondata. Acceleration is alot smoother and consistant now. On the downside, i do think my gas mileage has decreased somewhat from adding this cat. I havent done any factual tests yet, but ive been noticing my tsx eating up more gas quicker than before.

Looking for intake/heaer/exhaust, maybe a reflash was well.....Someone who has a dyno already preferrably.....PM ME!!!!! Don't clog this thread up. Serious people only.

And no it does not specifically mean you will get one for free! So don't ask!

There will be enough room engineered for the Cusco Type II bar, although this bar fits plenty well with the stock cat....so it should be pretty easy.....

These are not carb legal in CA. It is currently not legal to replace the cat on any OBD2 cat in CA! That does not mean I would not run one anyway though

We are MAKING our own flanges out of stainless steel material. The cat's are Magnaflow cats, same as the one used by the user in this thread...

let vwong do it!!!

he's about 30 min from the oc and he has hondata!!!!

If it cost you $160 and this set is $175, don't you think it's worth $15 so you can have the flexibilty of changing cats without having to go to a shop?

When I sell a car I generally don't want to sell it with a double hacked up OEM component. It's just begging to set off alarm bells at the mechanic when it goes in for inspection.

I'm still looking forward to this mod, it sounds like a cost effective upgrade with good results.

I already have the rear flange, gasket, extension pipe and cat ready. Just bought a pipe cutter today to make the final cut on the extension. Picking up the front flange tomorrow after work from my welding instructor, who offered to mill out the center hole for me (the hardest part without a machine shop). Just about to remove the cat off my car for some final measurements. With any luck, I will have one installed by the end of this week.

Didn't I pm you with the info already? :troutslap The OAL is 17-3/4". However, I would make it 18" instead, as it seems to need the extra length to relieve the stress on the rubber hangers downstream of the exhaust system.

I will see what kind of result on the dyno first before hitting the track.

Most CA shops won't even touch the cat....

Is there a direct replacement coming anytime soon, or are we stuck with universal?

Here is my high flow cat with the O2 sensor at the factory location. It has true 2.25" ID in/out at the flanges. However, the header collector and stock catback are still only 2.00" ID. My next plan is to cut off the header collector at the 2 into 1 section, and weld on a new section with a matching flex pipe with the same 2.25" ID, and later follow by a new catback system.

Did you run into any problems putting the secondary O2 sensor bung into the catalyst section?

No problems at all with the O2 sensor as it's designed just like the stock cat. However, I did have to rotate the cat slightly to point the O2 bung sideway. I didn't know the bung was pointing at an angle, and I didn't want to buy a new cat.

Well it looks sweet. So yours came with a bung welded in it already? Did you notice a performance difference?

Also, I think I'm going to grab a set of calipers and get the ID of the Comptech downpipe and Fujitsubo catback. They looked like 2.5" last I checked but probably aren't. I'm also curious to see what you decide to do about the catback.

I was going to dyno it today but the dyno is all booked up. Will try again soon, perhaps with the header collector re-sized.

I used Magnaflow 54055 which comes with the O2 bung, but the universal one should work just fine as well. The cat inlet/outlet is 2.25. But the extension pipe that I used is 2.5" OD with a 2.25" ID. One end of the pipe is expanded slightly to slip over the cat outlet to maintain the true 2.25" ID. It's a pretty thick pipe to keep any rattle/raspy sound down. The rear flange is also a 2.5" ID which is perfect for the extension pipe.

This is just a prototype cat to see what works. I'd be interested to see the new cat that MrHeeltoe mentioned and perhaps just buy one the next time.

Thanks for the update JTso. The cat looks great!

Did you come with a heat shield or did you get that custom done?
Did this new high flow cat make your exhuast louder?

The cat came with a top heat shield but no bottom. I don't believe it made the stock exhaust louder, but the engine does seem more rev happy with the cat. The intake is still louder.

I notice that's an OBD2 compliant cat. The one I used wasn't. I wonder what the differences are, whether it's just the sensor bung placement, or if the catalyst is different?

I think it is the sticker on the box that is different, That is my theory. I think it is a conspiricy....

I think the difference is just the O2 bung, as OBD1 does not require the secondary O2 sensor. You can make the universal cat OBD2 compliant by adding an O2 bung at the end, like what you have already done.

i was waiting for mr heel toe to release his cat.

actually, i've been thinking alot about cars and modifying, and it's so much money.

i've spent so much money on buying "quality: products - comptech exhaust components, tein suspension....

is it really worth it?

i guess it's a little too late in the game i guess - i've spent so much already.

but still...so the cat is gonna cost a couple hundred bucks - but to be honest, i could enjoy the couple hundred bucks elsewhere.

we'll see.

i always try to resist the car urge.
