Question CAI & Options

I plan on starting to Mod my AT 06 TSX very soon. One of the first things I am going to do is install a CAI. I have seen a K&N Typhoon CAI where the intake is down near the fog lamp. I have also seen a AEM short ram intake, Fujita CAI, Injen CAI, etc.... I would like some opinions on which one you think is the best and why? The K&N Typhoon looks really sweet but I am concerned that water will get sucked into it as I live in Florida and it can rain super hard. I would appreciate any feedback as to your choice and why.

One more thing. I am reading about removing the resonator to increase HP and engine sound. Can you remove the resonator AND put in a CAI?

you'll need to remove the resonator to put in a CAI.

A CAI reaches down the foglight area; for your stock car, that space is currently taken up by the resonator.

A Short ram would disconnect the resonator from the engine, but still keep it screwed onto the car. most people remove it anyways, even if they only have a short ram. since it's not connected to anything, it doesn't do anything but take up space and weight down the car.

BTW, search =)

Yea, in order to install the CAI you have to take out the resonator, can't keep it. It's hard to hydrolock a car unless the filter is almost submerged in water. You can always install a bypass with it too to avoid that. If you go SRI then you should just remove the resonator due to what's stated above.

As for CAI vs SRI it's your choice on what you would want. CAI gives you gains in the higher RPM's but you lose lower end power. SRI imo are kinda pointless, I mean some ppl like em but I don't care for them. I would get one that can be adjusted to both CAI and SRI, I think Injen is like that. In the end it's really your choice but I would go with one that could do both.

The difference between the cai and sri down low is very minimal, maybe 2-4 hp. The difference between the cai and sri in the higher rpms is greater 7-10hp, with the cai being on top.The injen cai is a very good product, however, you will get what you like & what fits your budget.

K&N Typhoon is a CAI, but also can be converted to a SRI.

Injen makes the cai that can go into sri. Comptech Icebox is also a popular choice. CAI can scare some people away that are afraid of hydrolocking

ok so i have a question...i have a modded out Accord and will be selling it in the next month or so and buying an 06 TSX

i want to swap over my Fujita CAI (CA-1914 i think)
on the TSX it shows that the support bar welded to the intake pipe connects more towards where the battery tie down bar is..... however on the accord the support bar is on the other side and braces itself to the car under the fuse box.... is it possible to attach the CAI here?

its the same exact connection, just under the fuse box compared to the TSX connecting near the battery tie down bar.... wondering how i could make this work without having to spend $ and getting a whole new CAI

thanks for the help

i realize that the TSX doesnt have a MAF.... i would be plugging this up in hopes to maybe save a few bucks and not having to buy an entirely new CAI

My car is 06 5AT as well. My first mod was get the car reflashed and add the CT icebox. I felt the car already had strength higher in the rev range and if anything needed a bit of kick down low which is what the CT Icebox did for the car. I spend most of time in the lower stages of the RPM range and that is why I went with that setup. It also did not change the sound of the car much if anything. I cannot attest to the sounds made by some of the other intakes but I have read on this forum that they can produce more noise than the Icebox. My .02 cents. Happy Modding...

I would definitely suggest getting a CAI that can convert to a short ram so you can try both styles. I personally have the Injen and I am very satisfied. Especially with the sound! Honestly I think the filter element is more important than the brand tube you have connected to it. You can probably find a comparison of the flow rates for various brands of filter elements. As carmagnut mentioned, the CT icebox is a bit quieter but personally I enjoy the being able to hear the engine purr when it revs above 4 thousand.

As u can c in the pic I went with the K&N Typhoon CAI. I also got the K&N mesh cover that goes over the filter. I also live in florida and haven't had any water issues. Although I look at 4 any deep puddles.

you would need to drill a hole in the intake tube near the throttle body to have an opening for the intake air temp. sensor on the TSX. You would have to make a rubber/polyurethane grommet to plug the hole too so the IAT sensor won't fall out. Another consideration would be where the your current intake tube mounts for support. On the TSX, the battery tie down is where the Fujita (for the TSX) mounts to for support and to limit movement. I would go to the Fujita website and compare the pics of each intake to see the differences, since it's hard to explain w/o having pics.
