Are you just looking for a tip, or a complete exhaust (muffler, catback?)?
Give the guy a break. To each their own, right?
If I came up behind him on the road, I would probably then
Gotta admit there is high shock value though.
If he's just kidding around though,

when people mention universal mufflers, usually they buy just the exhaust canister and get it welded on to the existing stock exhuast pipes, and/or get custom piping from the catalytic converter.
however, the advantage of buying a cat back exhuast is that the bends in the piping are made by mandrel bending, which keeps the diameter of the piping equal, where as custom piping will have a smaller diameter whenever there is a bend.

Anyway, almost all aftermarket cat-back exhausts will not replace or get rid of the factory cat (hence the term cat-back).
