air filter question

alright, this may sound stupid but will it harm the motor if i ran without an airfilter in the airbox? i took it out and drove for like 2 seconds and the car felt more responsive and sounded louder, but i put it back in, because i dont know if that will affect the motor adversly. please dont flame

If you don't want dirt going into your motor, yes it is harmful.

It's not safe as there could be debris getting into the engine. If you haven't already, remove the intake resonator and you'll feel the same thing. Do a search for "remove resonator" for a guide. Takes about 30-60mins.

Not flaming, but take your filter out now, look at the crap it catches and imagine that burning onto the surface of the piston or better yet the edges of the valves. Hope that image helps.

Agree, you should post before doing something like that. Removing the air filter (not for two seconds, but for an extended period) will allow every manner of crap to get sucked into your engine and will ruin it very prematurely. An aftermarket intake will get you better hp results.

Yup, not good. Attach it and remove the resonator. Or install the CAI / SRI.

If it was off for only 2 seconds like you said, then no big deal. Just don't try to drive around without a filter for a period of time.
