370WHP HKS Turbo'd TSX

I went into Barns&Nobles this afternoon and picked up a Dec. to Jan. issue of "Honda Tuning" and it had the DAZZ TSX on the bottom right of the cover. "TURBO'D TSX"..."custom kit pushes 370HP." So i turn to the article and im reading it...HKS makes the turbo for this TSX..HKS usually works with Supra's and other cars like Nissan but never really with Honda's/Acura's. Then i continue to read and then noticed that the 370HP is 370WHP!! So im look "Bullsh!t" Then i read more.. 306lb-ft Torque!! Then all my excitement comes down when i read "What a shame then to learn that HKS has no plans to produce this turbo kit" And then my excitement comes up again when then reading.. "I take that back. Given enough interest, HKS says they could bring the kit to market. TSX owners, you hear that?" Ok here is what we can do as a Group..as a Community..as a Culture..as a Unity!..CALL or EMAIL HKS TO HAVE THIS KIT MADE FOR US ALL!!... even if you guys are not interested in a Turbocharger, do it for the ones who might be interested. We are suppose to be here for each other, which is why we are apart of forums like these..It will help put the TSX on the map of the tuner world also.. More kits will come out, being either turbochargers and/or superchargers. I would love to have this kit also..and i know alot of others might as well.. So who's with me??

I understand you're excited but this is the exact reason why companies are reluctant to bring new products to market. People say "hey man, lets get that turbo to market" but very few actually buy it when it does get here.

If I were HKS, I'd be pissed if I received 100's of calls and emails asking for the kit then only to have 5 sell when it becomes available.

Only people who are seriously considering the kit should contact HKS.

It's not uncommon to see high HP on a 4 cyl FWD cars, especially with turbo. Just go to honda-tech.com forced induction forum and see for yourself. Here, how about a 519 WHP on 91 octane fuel tuned with Hondata and a dyno chart to prove?

Wow...high hp but not much torque...It's perfect for a FWD car.

Not bad for a tiny 1.6L @ 14psi and a HUGE exhaust pipe.

BTW, the peak HP is at approx. 9400 rpm, which I doubt a stock TSX can handle...

Can't a turbo mess up your engine real bad? Plus they cost like 3 Gs right?

There are a 101 ways to screw up your engine.

A good kit that's properly tuned can be very reliable. There are limits of course. A 370WHP engine is not going to have the same life expectancy as a 200 crank hp NA engine.

If improperly developed, then yes, but that could happen with any number of parts. Like Dan said, a properly designed kit can be very reliable, but just don't expect to see the same life-expectancy.

I too would love to have a turbo kit dropped in my car, but for the $4000+ I don't have the cash now to pay for that power. I don't know how many people actually want to have HKS Build a kit for the TSX.

Dan, maybe you can make a sticky with a sign up of how many people are serious about purchasing a production kit, and the price range they are willing to spend on it.

I for one wouldn't want to bolt a turbo on till before my warranty is over. Plus on top of the whole 370WHP (I believe the article stated that it was capable of pushing more WHP) there is no ECU for this car, except that one of a kind HKS Tuned ECU. There is also no clutch made to handle the power. So all in due time I guess.

I'll try and get a scan of the article. It's pretty much just Q&A with the HKS guy. Just talks about how the TSX Turbo is different from the RSX. and thus they won't produce the kit unless there's more expressed interest.

Even if HKS did market this turbo, it would not push 370WHP. More like 250-280ish. The article was just to show what the turbo and car are capable of.

Just a thought... why would anyone want to wait for the warranty to expire and the engine is much older before boosting the car? Don't you want to boost a healthy engine than a slightly more worn out one?

I just figure you wouldn't want anything to accidentally mess your engine up and have the acura dealership void the fix. I'd boost my car after warranty because with the boosting I would plan on swapping out many of the engine components standard to a complete turbo upgrade anyway. So short of a older engine block, the pistons, injectors, spark plugs, header, gasket, cams, belt... everything would be redone.

The B Series engine can go through a lot of punishment, I'm sure the K series will last a long time, even with a FI upgrade. As long as you don't plan on running insane boost.

If I can get my TSX To run 13's I'd be happy and done withe upgrades.

Ah... I see. I will boost the stock engine and use it as baseline to determine where the limit is and what needs to be done for higher HP or more reliable. However, I will not be doing any FI upgrade until the proper fuel management system is available.

If I ever did get around to FI, I will try to keep boost minimal enough to maintain mid 13's.

Eitherway when that time comes around for most of us to upgrade to FI, I'm sure Fuel management and a good bolt on turbo will be available.

I don't think a lot of TSX owners will purchase an actual production turbo as readily as they'll enjoy someone else blowing their money on it. For a $4000 mod on top of a $27,000 car, should've just gotten an S2000.

depends how much boost you plan on running. as dan said, more hp = less engine life expectancy.

turbo is not for noobs, better do ALOT of research on it first.

step #1 - learn about strengthening the internals - new pistons...etc etc.

some people like 4 doors.. some people like the look of the tsx.. some people like the navi and all the comfort features it offers.. some people love the interior.. I could have gotten an evo and smoked an s2k.. picked the tsx for a reason now a tsx + boost = that damn near perfect car everyone was talkin about when they said the tsx just needed 40 more hp to be 'perfect'...

The car doesn't need a whole lot more power to make it really sweet. I'd be more than happy with 240whp.

i would seriously consider this or the supercharger in about a year but i gotta agree with some of you where i would definitely want a better form of engine managment...

btw if hks does produce this expect it to put down between 250-300hp not much more, they are using this TSX for mostly show and probably very close to unstable...something with lower boost is what they will most likely market...

I would much rather get something that will give me the 240 hp and not void my engine warranty... damn I wish Acura has some factory upgrade. Hell, if they just had a 240 hp TSX in the first place.

Everyone knows that if this kit was released it will not be a bolt-on 370WHP kit..it will probably be tuned/detuned to 240 to 250WHP..seems more reasonable. Just the fact that it can make 370WHP is crazy! Plus you guys have to look at our car and where it stands in the import industry. THERE ARE NO TSX'S OUT THERE!! mainly i guess the price range of the car..or maybe its too NEW. And alot of us might not want a turbo for the price of them or the warranty of our cars but i think even if u dont want one you could help others who do want one by writing or calling them. I see people saying "HKS will be mad if they bring out a kit and 5 people buy them when released" AND! The kit will be out and then some other company will see this and make another kit and try to beat the price of the next kit so they can sell kits also..Or, if HKS doesnt sell many kits they will start to drop the price of their kits making it more affordable.. When i was apart of MatrixOwners.com the guys on there that didnt want any turbochargers or superchargers wanted the guys that did want to have a turbo for their cars, so they helped out in all different ways..just because they wanted to see it happen. LETS JUST DO IT FOR THE TSX!!..ITS OUR CARS!! LETS HELP EACH OTHER!!..i thought thats what this community was about??

Your logic just doesn't make financial sense. We'd all love to see more turbo kits and goodies for our TSX, but blatantly lying to companies to get them to bring it to market isn't cool.

If you invested $50,000 to develop a turbo kit for the TSX because hundreds of people sent you a message saying "gimmie that turbo" then you only sell 5 when it's available, you'd be pissed.

WHP not Crank HP. A TL puts down around 230 to the wheels.

so basically if the tsx has 240whp and 6mt, it would post times similar to the tl 6mt right? doesn't the tl weight within 100 pounds of the tsx?

It's about 260lbs so yes it would be very close.
