100W H1 bulbs for DRL

Hi. I just ordered a set of yellow gold H1 bulbs so I could replace them with my current DRL bulbs. I have a question. Would a 100W bulb be too strong and burn out the wires? No right? Since DRL doesn't draw much power. But that's my guess. Any suggestions or comments?
Thanks. Have a nice day!!!

Actually, you won't burn out the wires, you'll burn out the bulb prematurely if anything. Since I don't believe the high beams are 100W, the bulbs will not be driven by the power they are supposed to and therefore will be running inefficiently. That just makes them burn out faster. How much faster? I've know some people who had incorrect wattage bulbs burn out in days and some in months. No telling.

i dont agree with moda:

if you run a 100 watt bulb where there used to be a 55 watt there will be 2 concerns, 1 the fuse for the headlights may blow using ohms law you will see a 100 watt bulb draws nearly 2 times the amps as a 55 watt. second it generated nearly 2 times the heat. there is a good chance you will melt the housing or things surrounding it.
good luck

exactly! you'll blow a fuse or melt something. Not good. go 55w.

An alternative is to get those bulbs that consume 55W of power but emit 85W or 100W (if any) of light. How good are these? I don't know because I haven't messed with any light bulb for the past 5 years.

I guess I'll be the guy to say that 100W bulbs aren't legal for street use in most areas.

I bet it is probably not legal for DRL. But how about for high beam?

that's just a marketing scam.... light is measured in lumens not watts.

Thanks for all the replies guys. Since I don't think I'll be getting them anymore!!! Not cause of any buring or blowing causes. It's just I didn't get a deal on those bulbs I wanted.

Canadian Law required DRL's (Daytime Running Lights) in all new vehicles...this has been around since 1994 (I believe).

DRL's aren't such a big deal in the city, but when travelling on 2-lane highways, it's sure a hell of a lot easier to spot a vehicle with DRL's from a distance than a vehicle without DRL's.

Plus, in Canada we get heated mirrors! Ha ha! And -45 degree windchills! Ha - wait a minute...scratch that last part!

Lightbulb

To tell yout he truth I bought 100W Hyper Yellow H1s for my TSX last year and they burned out in about 2 weeks. I kept them on from the time the car was on till it was off(high beam). About Average of 4 hours a day. I then went to 55W Hyper Yellow H1s and they are still pretty decent. i dont run it everyday but i do use them.

Ive had them for 7months now!
