Is your 'outdoor temperature gauge accurate?

Got my TSX AT / non-Navi about a month ago. I love this car, coming from an EL 1.7 (Acura's version of a Civic in Canada) and haven't really had any problems.

I do find that the outdoor temperature gauge is not reading accurately and therefore, in my opinion is causing the climate control to work extra hard.

The radio will say it's 22c / 72f yet my gauge says 24c / 75f. I'm sure the A/C is making it much colder inside the car than the temperature I set it at.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Thanks

The guage on your radio is the temperature you want your cabin to be. The temperature guage on your dashboard shows outside temperature; seperate from inside temperature.

The outside temp guage has been known to be a few degrees off. See post 6 here to adjust it...https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...t=temp+degrees

The outside gauge has nothing to do with how hard the CC works. there are sensors (one to the right and behind the steering wheel, and one near the front windsheild) that are used in conjunction to determine proper temp settings. The sensor for the outside temp is on the bumper.

Thanks! That was very helpful. I will try that out later and report my findings.

Also temps vary from area to area even within a relatively short distance

Also, you don't know where the readings are taken that are reported on the radio. Lastly, the temperature reading will not be accurate until you drive around a bit. When your car is standing still there are hot and cold spots behind the bumper (where the sensor is located). You have to drive a bit for it to pick up ambient temperature.

Is that better Belzebutt?

I notice the same thing on my 05 TSX too. The outside temp gauge is always a 2 degrees off what the radio annoucer says. However, my previous car, a 99 Passat, was always right on. I do remember reading something in the owner's manual on how to calibrate our outside temp gauge. Am I hallucinating?

Outside Air Temperature Display Adjustment

Courtesy page 22-228 of the 2004 TSX Service Manual:

Temperature can be adjusted +/- 3 degrees:

1. Turn ignition switch ON (II).

2. Press and hold the reset select button for 10 seconds. While you continue to hold the button, the display will scroll through temperature settings from +3 to -3 as shown:

0. 1.2.3. -3. -2. -1 (repeat back to 0)

When the desired correction value appears on the display, release the button, and the recalibrated outside air temperature will be displayed. Each time a desired correction value is entered, it replaces the previous value.

NOTE:

To recalibrate the display to the true temperature, remove the outside air temperature sensor but leave it connected. Submerge the sensor and a thermometer in a container of ice water. Select the calbiration mode as described above and recalibrate the display to the true temperature.

re:

I think that the temperature gauge basically sucks. Mine always reads too high. You shouldn't have to drive all over town to get it to work.

Actually, I do know where the readings are taken. Each of the 2 stations I listen to announce the place of the reading, for example, at Dorval airport it is now 27c.

In any case, both Intrepids I've owned were on the money every time.

Hey!

That did the trick. The gauge is reading the proper temperature, most of the time

Oops, here in Long Beach you can never tell. Sometimes the local weather is as measured in downtown and other times as measured at the Long Beach Airport. The difference can be 3-4 degrees (downtown being cooler).

it sucks because it doesnt account for humidity or wind chill.....like recently, the temp reads 31 degrees, yet its like 45 with humidity.

not a good feature and id prefer nothing at all.

You'd rather have no outside temp guage than one that is 2-3 degrees off?

Jeez, what do you do to your lawnmower if it misses a blade of grass?

Guess you never use your CD player in your car

To answer the thread's question: my temp. gauge seems to be accurate within 1 to 2 degree (Celcius). Good enough for me

I assume you never play CD in your car because you stay on the radio to catch the temp. report

My CD player is fine, even CD-RWs that some have said don't play on theirs

What do you do that requires you to have the exact tempature to the degree?

I mean, its off by 2-3 degrees, its not like you can really feel the difference

I guess everyone really is different

if one of those things is off by a little, damage can be caused to the car/engine...

To me, if the outside temp is 2 degrees hotter/colder nothing is really going to happen that will change my life.

I know what your saying, but it seems a bit extreme to rather not have it because its off by 2 degrees...its a minor thing. I mean my cell phone does'nt get service ALL the time, but i don't throw out my cell phone.

life is full of grey (fuzzy) logic, 1/0-on/off view is too extreme indeed.
