I'm figuring I should have a bit more wiggle room when I call next week (my year is up the 26th) as, well, they've just tweaked the 3 stations I listen to 99% of the time! (Fred, Lucy and Ethel)... They seem ok so far, but it actually gives me a valid reason to not want to pay full price right now.

Aptar Raminishapinivilli Sahashmilivamishli (XM Rep) may have just given me the WinBack for $77 for the 3rd or 4th time... I say "may" because we clearly spoke two different versions of the language I know of as English. Hell, I could have just invested $77 in some Indian Venture Capital fund for all I know.

I spent hours calling XM Billing to explain that I'd asked auto-renewal to be turned off, but they renewed me anyway. Kept getting "disconnected" from billing, which another rep attributed to "high call volume." Each time I was pitched varying degrees of packages (either 2 or 3 year plans, or a promotional $9.95 per month -- each time I said, No, no, the price I paid last year is the sweet spot, even with prices of other things going up and the economy going into the tank. Give me that $77 plan or cancel my account. One rep wanted to give it to me, but then charge me $12 for service 10/24 - 11/10. I balked at that, was disconnected, and when I called back, the outstanding balance was only $8.65.
Finally got a rep to renew me for another $77 a year, "again, this is a one-time courtesy price, you will not get it next year."
Audio Visions sounds a little more fluffy, and I mourn the passing of Fred, Ethel, Lucy. Also XM Starbucks (formerly Hear Music) Cafe, which was x'ed for other reasons. I didn't need an all-Springsteen channel, but I'm super-mega-friggin'-pleased that I know have Sirius' NPR feed. I can now record 2-3 of my favorite shows to play later (I have an Inno, which is like Tivo for XM).
If this is what your billing phone lines do when you get lots of calls, that doesn't bode well for your broadcast reliability.
Sure, I understand. Thank you for your generosity.

Just tried to renew my XM at $77 and couldnt swing it. The best one year offer they could give me was $149 a year, almost twice of what i was paying. I decided to cancel. I just dont listen to XM enough to pay that much. I would have renewed for the $77. Oh well.

I just got off the phone after renewing for $77 for a year. I had service before in my TSX, canceled to go to Sirius but now since all of my favorite channels are on XM now, might as well use the built in XM.
I called, said I wanted to sign up again and use a promotion code that I got when I bought the car less than a year ago, but forgot when I originally signed up. The lady had no problem, I gave her the promo code, she told me it would be a one time only, I said fine and waiting for the activation to come down now....

I had had 6 months of service for 4.99/month. I called to renew and they first offered something absurd like 119/year. I said no that was still way too much and they offered the $77/year. I know it's a decent deal, but after getting 6 months for 4.99/mo I said no, and they said OK goodbye, "What could we have done to keep you as a customer?" I said "Give me the rate I had before, I don't care if that promo is over". Well I didn't say the 2nd part, but they were fine with letting me go.
I cannot understand why a company that is losing many subs and whose stock is in the crapper wants to get $0 from me instead of $5 a month from me. Oh well.
After they retooled the lineup a month ago I was even more willing to cancel w/o a renewel of the same rate I had. If they kept the same old lineup I might have bite on the $77/yr. Oh well. If I get a card in the mail in a few months for $5/month again, I'll sign up. I hope many more people left, upset at the changes.

I think its a crap shoot...
I was able to get the $77 promo a second time. I called the day it was supposed to auto-renew and told them I didn't want to renew other than for $77 because it was too expensive. The csr put me on hold and then can back after talking to the supervisor who gave the ok to renew at $77 again.

Total crap shoot. First time I called she wouldn't give me the $77 and I said I'd probably just let it lapse since I already had my $77 (previous year) budgeted and couldn't increase it. I called back a few minutes later when I noticed the wording on my renewal that it was automatic-- uh-oh. Guy I got was pretty cool. Turned out the key was I had to say specifically I wanted it discontinued as that's when he was able to transfer me to the other department where I was able to get the $77. They sound like they don't like to continue people on the plan more than a year. But again, probably depends who answers the phone.

I just renewed my subscription for $77. They did fight a little with me. Wanted me to do a lifetime subscription for $495 told them I don't keep cars that long and that my XM was built in to car. They then asked what they could do to keep me as a customer I said give me a year for $60. Of course they said no that they only had the three months for $15 and that promo was over so I settled for $77 for one year. Be willing to hang up and call back in to get the deal you want. With their stock at less than $0.15 they are willing to deal.

Yes, the final rep said to me OVER AND OVER (ad nauseam) that "this is a one-time, courtesy price," that I wouldn't get it next year. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Another rep had tried to hard sell me on a new radio (why?? I already have a radio in hand, and another in my car; oh, because he had a script that required him to do so, for each and every renewing customer), and also tried to sell me on the $500 lifetime subscription, which wasn't limited to a single radio ... it could be transferred to up to 2 other radios. That's not a "lifetime subscription," and it's disturbing that their brain-dead marketing people don't think XM customers will catch that. It's almost fraudulent.
What really perturbs me is that I'd willingly add on my car to my portable subscription, for $2-3-4 a month. But not $7. I offered this repeatedly, and they weren't interested in the wee bit of extra cash up front for a year. How do you spell stupid? "X-M-S-R."
HD radio seems to catching on ... will have to ask in the Audio section about replacing the Acura XM radio with an HD receiver.... XM doesn't seem to value customer retention very highly.

A followup to my post a few up:
Got the postcard in the mail today saying please o please come back, letting me pick from the $77/yr or $5/mo for 3 months. I called and got another 3 months for $14.65 in less than 5 minutes after being on hold for about 5 min. They asked what the card I got had on it, it just had my account num(not my radio ID), and ironically enough an expiration date of 12/31/08 that I *forgot* to mention, lol.
Further proof it matters who you get on the phone, even in retention they wouldn't offer me this deal just 3 weeks ago. 3 weeks later they did.
I won't even bite on the $77 a year because I know they'll do $15 for 3 months at a time. They are(and should be) desperate to hang onto subscribers ANY WAY they can.

Tried to get this deal on my wife's 09 Pilot and was told it wasn't offered anymore. Next time they call, I'm going to tell them either give me the $77/mth or I'm installing Sirius conversion and paying my $6.99/mth for the additional radio on my existing Sirius account for my TSX (since I have an 04, it is a separate unit).
UPDATE: How funny, but XM just called me to give me the $77/yr rate for 1 year, almost 3 hours after I posted this.

I feel silly settling for $77 when they're offering more and more people the $14.99 or $19.99 deals. A colleague even got 4 months for free when he called up to cancel.
Well, if you're a user of the online listening service as I am from time to time, here's a reason to renew in some fashion:
Note the fine print. "On your next renewal date,...." Think about that. When you renew, you'll LOSE one of the benefits that you've been entitled to. :thumbsdow But since my current term is up in November, I should continue having benefit of online radio all year, right? ... Right?

Once you give them your credit card # they automatically charge the account when it is due for renewal unless you call and cancel before the renewal date.

You're made out of money if you're willing to pay $77 per MONTH for XM...lol

$77/year deal still works, I just renewed today. I called the first time, first rep was clueless about any promotions. But, the second rep gave me the deal right away. I used "winback" although I never subscribed to it before . I also paid about $4/mo extra for traffic..total comes out to $124 and change for one year

Another 3 months, same old story. I called to cancel, they first offered 120 a year, I wanted to ask if they were kidding. Then they offered the 77/yr and I said no. They asked what it would take, I said $5/mo for 3 more months, they said no can do that was a one time promo. I said fine cancel my service. "What could we have done to keep you as a customer?" I JUST TOLD YOU! Give it to me for $5/month!
Not even 24 hours later I get an email(I had gotten a couple of these in the last 14 days) begging me to come back for $5/month for 6 months this time. I call the number, not even 3 minutes on the phone, got it back for $5/month for 6 months this time.
$60/yr beats $77/year
You don't have to settle for $77 a year if you don't want. Just wait, they will send something to you in the mail or email begging you to come back.

So i just bought my '05 TSX and was wondering what the best deal for a new customer is out there for XM? My dad has XM, so not sure if it would be cheaper to add to his plan or go on my own. $77/year is nice but looks like its for exisiting customers only.
thanks guys for the tips!

There is no a la carte that I've heard of, they now broadcast XM-Sirious (mostly Sirious, alas).
They are scrambling for subscribers, IMHO, so let your "trail" elapse, and let them start calling and begging you to come back. $77/year (prepaid) still seems a viable option, but a coworker has been offered less for a 4 or 5 month stint (which, when it's over, rolls over into their standard, greedy 3-month rate; just cancel again).
I haven't heard anyone getting thme to budge from the, what is it now, $8.99 additional fee for each additional radio? That's just lame. They could have my money if it was only $2-3 more a month for my car. But I don't listen to both radios at the same time.

I had to renew my subscription yesterday. I called, told them that I wanted to cancel my subscription. She asked why, and I told her that it's too expensive. She asked if I'd be willing to do the $77/year deal again, and I said yes. She didn't mention anything about it being a 1-time deal...she basically told me to call back in a year before it ends.
