Window Tinting - Chicago Area
Okay..so I just bought my new car, and I want to get it tinted and need your help. How do I find out what the legal tinting is for IL...or does anyone know of a website w/ this info??? If anyone's in my area that can recommend a good place as well, let me know!! I'm in the south burbs of Chicago!

Did you even try typing "Illinois tint law" into Google and seeing what came up?

Fellow Chicago '06 CG w/Navi owner here. Bought 4/30/2006. I also wanted to tint my car till I found out you can not have the front windows tinted at all but you can have the back as dark as you want. Figured having just the back tinted is kind of ugly. If you find a good place to do it for cheap, let me know and I may think about it again. It would be even better if you can post pics of your car after the tinting. If you planning on getting clearbra in Chicago, give Jim at Protech a call. He gave me a great deal and the clearbra looks great. Rick at Body Skin Inc. is also highly recommended.

I got my car tinted at Z-tec in Downer's Grove, but they have sinced moved to the new shop in Naperville area on Ogden. ($260? w/ lifetime warr.)
The tint turned out great, not one tiny bubble, no moleskin, but I don't have any scratches a year later either.
I got 50% on the front and 20% on the rear doors - back glass.

www.tintdude.com as well. Look in the catalog of tinters. It's free to advertise at tintdude.com so you may find more options than tintcenter.com

I went as light as possible on the front windows and I haven't been hassled yet, even in the burbs.

Illinois has a special waiver certificate available to tint your driver and passengers laws. You should check in to it to see how difficult it is to legally go darker. Here in WA all you need is a doctors note saying you have a skin issue. If you get a bad sunburn and go to the doc he will write you a note up here in WA and that's all you need.

This may be a little out of the way but there is a place called Total Car Total Care on Rt 14 in Crystal Lake just west of Rt 31. They do really good work there. One of my co-workers got their tint done there and it looks really good.
There is a place called Midwest Auto Tinting in Melrose Park that does a good job too. It is on 25th ave and Lake St. (RT 20). A lot of people that I know take their car there. I am considering it too. I just want to make sure that they don't use the "dye" tint that will turn purple later on.

From what I know Z-tec was Ziebart before, at least the one on Odgen in Naperville. On my SI I had the back windows done in limo and the driver and passenger were done lighter so you could see some one sitting in the front seats. This was done by Ziebart I didn’t have a problem with the tint until last year when a bubble formed on my driver’s side door and a few scratches in the tint. It is against IL law to have those windows tinted with anything. I drove my car like that for 6 years and was not bothered at all. Now my mustang I was ticketed once and had the ticket dropped since I told them I took the tint off. Also had four other tickets Witten at the same time. I also have a 2006 TSX Carbon Grey Pearl w/ Ebony leather and NAV that I will have all the windows tinted. Have to wait a week since I just had Rick at Body Skin Inc. install a clear bra on the car. If any of you find a good place that is cheap and close to Plainfield, Naperville, Joliet let me know.
Thanks,
T.R.
