I am looking for a new set of plate lights for my 06 TSX. I used to have the WLED-WHP kind on my plate but one of them went out yesterday. Now I'm looking at this WLED-xLX kind. According to the spec, this is a lot brighter, however, it is also a bit longer than the WHP kind. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with this and know if this will fit or not.

Have not tried this bulb, but would like to know if it fits. How much brighter is this LED over the standard 194 6 LED bulb

 

if you're talking about WLED-WHP (the first one).. it SHOULD fit.

and the middle one, no picture, can't tell

These are the WLED-WHP^^. I use these, and they fit. It is a real tight fit. I had to shave some of the plastic off the base to make it fit right, but its fine. They have been working since November with no burn outs.





The missing middle picture was supposed to be these^^. These are the WLED-xLX. The bulb part might be too long, but the base is a 194/168 which will technically fit the socket. If you look at the chart, these ones draw more current.

I'd personally stick with the WLED-WHP. I would imagine they both burn out just as much. If you want to try them out, keep us posted on how they work.

I didn't have any trouble putting in the WHP bulbs. I'm just not sure how much room I have left in there to put in the longer xLX bulbs.

 

Yeah, the WLED-xLX look too long and might not fit. Knock on wood, I've have mine for more than a year and are still fine.

 

I noticed that the WLED-xLX bulbs are 1Watt. They might be too bright. The chart on the OP's link shows that they are brighter than the WLED-WHP. And the WLED-WHP are bright enough to illuminate the ground right below the rear bumper.

The thing I like about the WLED-xLX is that it is available in cool-white instead of just white. Cool white gives off a crisper white.

 

Yea, I'm still looking for the kind of white that the Lexus have. It's just not the same. I'm hoping the "cool white" will be better. That is if the bulb fits.

 

I have WLED-WHP and they fit fine.

 

I don't know what the Lexus plate lights looks like. If you're trying to achieve higher color temp (more blue), then moving from 'white' LEDs to 'cool white' LEDs should do the trick. Anyway, if they don't fit, maybe try the wedge bulbs from superbrightleds called "921-x12,"

cool-white would be called 921-CW12. I have these in my doors, and they're pretty blueish... like 6000K I would guestimate.

If you could explain how the Lexus lights look, it could clue us in on figuring out how to achieve that look on the TSX. Maybe even post a pic of the Lexus.

One thing I was thinking is that the lens MIGHT have a lot to do with how the light appears. They could be the same LEDs we're using only through a different lens that scatters the blue and purple component light differently. If there's a blue or purple band around the edge of the shined light while the center is pure white, it might be because of the lens. I could be wrong, but I'm just speculating.

 

So i was just wondering if those WLED-XLX's fit! My regular bulbs burned out and i was wondering if anyone tried out the longer XLX? Please respond it owuld be greatly appreciated.
