Why are Honda sales down and Acura sales up?

Just an observation I saw on the recent Honda and Acura sales. It seems that most of the Honda models have lost sales in their entire line compared to their sales figures from last yr.

On the other hand, Acura sales have been going up. Why do you think this has happened?

Easy,

Accord = Ugly
Civic = Pathetic compared to competition

Acura = TSX, TL

As for the other Honda's, Although we hav'nt seen April sales figures, I'm sure the CR-V, Pilot, Element and Ody have pretty much maintained their sales numbers or only suffered small declines. Honda's bread and butter cars are killing them while Acura's are booming.

i recall some report that Acura has terrible RSX sales, while MDX was good but # are limited by capacity of the output, prev gen TL was going out of door, and TSX output was also limited, overall, Acura is at low point that can't go any lower so it must go up!!
while Honda, Civic was best seller and suddently surrender the title, while sales on Accord was good, it's probably not better than record. i really hope Honda chane Civic..... the competition is getting tough and the Mazada is very attractive.

Acura is doing very well because of the TSX and the TL. Both are totally new additions/redesigns while Honda has been doing nothing for the Civic (it's bread and butter).

The Accord is doing fairly well but not enough to carry the Honda line. The compact line has a LOT of competition now, which I'm sure affects the civic sales tremendously.

Off note, how is the Oddessy selling? I remember when there were 2-3 month waits for the car and dealerships would mark them up 2-3K easily and people would still buy it (one being my friend =P).

I heard it's only 10% down from the previous year. Considering it's in the 6th model year for the design, and up against brand-new Siennas and Quests, I think it's doing well.

I'm sure the recall will affect sales too with the publicity that it's getting.

Apparently "tarted up econoboxes" are more appealing than plain old "econoboxes".

Accord sales must be really bad. My friend just bought a 2004 accord EX V6 coupe (no navi and auto) for $23k before tax and title. That's $4000 off MSRP, alot cheaper than TSX without navi. I just cant believe it when she told me the price.

This statement may be entirely true, but Civic sales are actually up for this month and year. 5.6% for the month and around 1.8% or so for the year. Even though these are only modest gains, I'm sure that it still will not encourage Honda to rush the release of a new Civic. What a downer.

Apparently, Civics Hybrids are doing exceptionally well from the language of the press release. Good fortunes for the Accord Hybrid this fall, hopefully.

Civic Sales up = Incentives.

Honda announced a dealer incentive program for Civic's earlier this year.

Odysseys are now going at prices equal to or below invoice.

Yeah i've seen that price pretty much everywhere now. They are pushing hard to sell accords. Although you can get the TSX for around $2k more at Turnersville (25,012), most places around here won't even DEAL on the TSX.

End of the model year, and after 6 years of production and a new, vastly improved Oddy due .... yes, I'd expect them to be discounting them fairly deeply now.

With the stock market well off it's lows and with net household assets at an all time high, it's natural that people should feel wealthy enough to buy Acuras and BMWs instead of Hondas.

i noticed again on that chart that most of the hondas have negative on them except for the Civic and S2000.

while on the acura side yeah you're right the TSX, TL, and MDX are selling quite well.

this is my theory now, i think americans are thinking why should i buy a honda when i can buy an acura which has the honda reliability, better warranty, better service, more features, and more exclusive on the road.
