We've had threads on this before, probably mostly on the old site. I don't remember what we came up with, but my guess is what d-rock said, plus different suspension.

The power seat motors weigh quite a bit. Also, there's probably a lot of extra sound deadening material over the Euro-R.

The Euro doesn't have a power seat??

BTW, way off the subject, but nobody answered it yet over there, so:

Does anybody know if the TL has power-retractable side mirrors? (Sorry, admins/mods, won't do it again!)

the tsx is just about 100-150 lbs heavier than the euro accord executive which has most of the same shared features. Before the car came out I asked this question in a chat with the lead acura engineer + marketing fellow and they said it was safety stuff + bigger wheels and tires. Who knows......

Exactly..which is why I think they didnt include power pass seat. Look how far they went in reducing weight with the gear box (using magnesium). When they could..they reduced weight but there are certain features that people couldnt live without..such as lots of air bags and power drivers seat. You've got to strike that balance between lux and sport...whereas the type-r can be all (or mostly) sport.

Make sure you're comparing like with like. Sometimes mfrs quote a car's weight with an average passenger in and a full tank of gas. Some quote a dry weight. We're talking two different manufacturers here (not really, I know) and two completely different markets where the conventional way to specify weight may not be exactly the same.

Does the Euro-R have a sunroof?
Does the Euro-R have the fancy trunk carpet to hide the hinges?
Leather is heavier then cloth.
Power seat motors, HID ballasts?

To be honest would you part with anything on your TSX for a 265 lbs. Savings?

------------

In responce to another thread up top. Acura (Honda) didn't dump the passenger power seat b/c of weight.

It is and has been Honda MFG. typical operation to install manual passenger seats on all 4cylinder Accords.

The 6 cylinder models have power passenger seats. They may have just choosen to keep the typical leather/power seat configuration in place.

The reason V6 cars get power seats in USDM line is the wiring harnesses is different between the 4 and 6 cyl car. It wouldn't be suprising to find the TSX and 4 cyl USDM Accord have simaliar wiring harness designs.

North americans are on average heavier (ie fat) than europeens. Acura has to stiffen the suspension and firm up the seats to make sure the car can carry our fat ass.

Of course, it doesn't apply to me since I'm 5'9" and 155lbs

On a more serious note, I guess that safety regulations may require to beef up some car components (bumpers for example). Also, if the doors may be heavier (more beefy door mechanism for example).

Does the Euro-R get the same wheels? Ours are pretty heavy.

Yeah. I'm 6'3" and 220lbs. I've never met a Japanese bigger than me (unless we're talking about a Yokozuna.

I always wanted to wrestle that guy. I had my "finishing hold" all planned -- THE FLYING TSX.

(You don't have to tell me that's an anachronism. Also stupid.)

Its a smaller engine...2.2 or 2.0 litres. Cant remember. But its higher revving ant puts out more hp than the tsx.

Right.. that difference in engine size alone could account for a decent difference in weight.

It may but you'd need to do the math to figure out how much more material if any the 2.4-block has over the 2.0-liter block.

Remember a good deal of the displacement increase comes from the stroke. This could be acheieved by adding merely 3mm off total block height. Which is hollow up top by the way. The cylinder heads could be nearly identical. In reality the 2.0 and 2.4 could be identical in weight. Remeber a b16A with a Toda stroker kit 1.8-1.9 liter is identical in weight to the normal b16A.

If the Euro-R is missing a sunroof my money is on that. However, arguing over 200+ lbs. is a moot point. It would be relatively easy to give up that weight if you are willing to make the sacrifice in over all luxury.

i would probaly say that our engine has a heavier components since the Euro R has the same engine from the DC5 type R which has lighter weight materials. Though it wouldn't affect much.
