Just use 93. The few cents difference per gallon isn't going to make you any richer than you are.

Generally here in Texas we only have a choice between 87, 89 and 93 too. However, there is a big corner market type 7/11 near my house that has a lot of pumps and sells 87, 89, 91 and 93. It's Citgo brand gas. The 91 saves you a nickel over the 93. You might check out the 7/11's near you.

In Germany they now offer 100 octane gasoline. I heard about it on the "Auto, Motor & Sport" TV show a couple weeks ago. It's all for sake of performance, performance, performance--getting more power out of your car.

Ironically, about a week earlier they had an article about "Autogas" and how people have their Mercs, BMWs, Opels (or whatnot) converted. I think Autogas is known CNG here. Compressed Natural Gas?

Anyway, my Costco has three grades, 87, 89, and 91. There's nearly 20 cents per gallon diff btwn 87 and 91. Ouch. That adds up.

I've used Shell 93 or Sunoco 92 and I actually have had better gas mileage with the Sunoco gas. Either way, I wouldn't dare go below the 91 recommended octane... no reason to.

BTW, love the comment on not getting rich by saving a few cents per gallon!! --berpie

It doesn't matter too much what gas company you use, but you should use at least 91 octane. Personally I use Ultra 94 at Sunoco. Why? No reason other than my previous car was a 99 Civic Si and it was addicted to it. Kinda built into my routine now.

the way NA rate octane is different to eurpe, asia, their 100 is about our 93 or 94 i gusses, if i remember correctly octane rating is based on research value while in NA our rating is (research value+????)/2, next time if you go to a pump look carfully, there is a little explination about 87 89 91 on the pump....

to you and moda_way (nice name, btw), a "few cents" is a 20 cent per gallon difference (here in Illinois, not sure what the price spread by you is), which adds up to a 3 to 4 dollar difference per fill-up. That can be quite a difference, resulting in an extra $100-150 spent per year.

That's not a huge amount by any means, but enough so that people who are on tighter budgets, whether by necessity or choice, might balk at it.

It's such a cheesy sales ploy, this "pennies per day mentality", you know the "buy this set of encyclopedieas because they'll only cost you 11 cents per day over your lifetime" argument.

Hell, ANYTHING is cheap when you break the cost down by day! If we choose to look from that perspective with a lot of things we consider purchasing, some among us would be broke (or will not have saved much of anything for retirement!).

sorry for the mini-rant.. went off on a slight tangent there. I really just wanted an excuse to do this...

Dude...its ONLY $100 to $120 a year difference. Thats well worth the peace of mind to use what gas Acura recommends you use...

Maybe you should have got a Civic????

You gotta treat the TSX right ... 93 for me only ... it just does not cost that much more. Now 28mpg vs. 20mpg ... that will cause a hit to the wallet. Do the math ... it is insane.

If you use an octane higher than 91, you will get carbon buildup from your unburnt fuel. Unless of course the engine adapts itself upwards as well as downwards.

Actually one of the saleman at the dealership said they only put
regular in all of the cars. Kinda bothered me that Acura corporate would not step in.
I was told that the one thing not to do was to keep switching
gas octanes.
I'm aware that Honda's have a computer that learns your fuel use and modifies the cars fuel maps as it learns this.
Basically if you switch around you will keep the car trying to remap the optimal fuel usage setup for your car.
