I am getting just about 25mpg, mostly commute(suburban driving, several stretches of non stop 45/50ish mph), and about 75 highway miles a week. First road trip I got my 30mpg. My MPG readout runs about .5 high than my actual calculated milage after filling up.

I just look at the gallons used for fill up, can't bear to look at the price total Exxon 93 premium has been ~5 cents cheaper than Wawa 92 this week! Never seen that in my almost 3 years working here/commute. $3.16 today(one plus of working in NJ). Diesel is just about $4/gallon over near where I live in PA.

Regular = ~$3.15
Premium= ~$3.35
Diesel= ~$3.70-$3.75!!!!
That's my big concern with diesel, the price difference is going to outweigh the engine efficiency. On top of that there are about a dozen gas stations close to where I live, and only 5 of them carry diesel. I would hate to be in unchartered territory and low on diesel .
05 AT with 13K, 85/15 Highway/City, 33 mpg.

Firstly, I'm getting between 18 and 22 mpg in my '04 6mt with 100% "suburban" driving (much like city but with longer gaps between the stops). This is with winter tires, steelies and crappy winter gas. In the summer I was getting more like 22-26 in the same conditions.

Google is freaking sweet: (29 L) / (260 km) = 21.088204 miles per gallon

Regarding drilling in Alaska, it won't even budge the gas prices so if that's your main argument for it, you are poorly informed on the issue. If you're going to advocate it, understand the implications first.

Regarding the price of diesel, LuvMyTSX beat me to the exact point I was going to make.

2007 AT. Of course this is going to depend on a bunch of factors, which most of us already know. Here in NE Maryland: 25-27 mpg in winter, 27-30 mpg in summer {local streets with little traffic}. 32-38 mpg hwy {cruise control and close to speed limit driving}

In response to LuvMyTSX comment - I agree b/c that's an accurate statement. Let me add that the middle eastern counties IMPORT more refined oil than they EXPORT...simple reason being they don't have the proper number of refineries. Ocean liners do not use a ton of fuel - they use tonS!

^^^ What's your city/highway split? Those numbers are pretty average. There's probably not much you can do to change it appreciably other than changing your driving habits to be very grandma like. You should see a few more MPG in the summer when they switch to a lower ethanol mix in the gas.

According to the official specs, we should get 18/city, 26/hwy, 21/combined. My experience with an AT is somewhat different, though.

To get the 18 mpg in the city, one needs to drive extra economically - that is, smooth starts and predictive braking. My long-term gas mileage is around 18 combined.

To get the 26 mpg on the highway, one needs to drive extra aggressively - that is, hard acceleration and occasional slow downs. I use the trip computer from within the navi hack to gauge instant consumption and, eventhough that bar graph's increments (5 mpg) are too coarse to get a reliable reading, the average displayed next to it is very accurate. I found that cruising at 58 mph on a level stretch of considerable length, with no wind, yields an astounding 41 mpg! That's 41, yes.

A wealth of fuel saving tips can be read on the Prius forums where some enthusiasts will go as far as popping into neutral anytime they coast or wait at intersections, turn off their music and headlights, etc. I know that's extreme, but if they feel good doing it - I have nothing against them. Nothing until I find myself trapped behind a Prius driving at 52 mph in the fast lane.

I don't look at the MPG value on the MID all that much, but I usually get about 375 miles/tank driving 80% highway miles.

i just took my car into the dealer today. im not car savvy so i had to... im only getting 15.6 miles to the gallon with premium (93 in florida). These results are on multiple tanks with gas from different stations. The service rep tried to convince me that my results were normal for city driving... I told him to check it anyway.. ill see what happens when i get my car back later today...

05 w/ 36xxx miles on it.. bought used around a month ago..

I'd hardly call that normal. Even when I do my short trips (2.5 miles each way) to work, with no other driving for about a week, I get ~23 mpg. 15 is ridiculous.

I can't believe no one (other than myself) has ever bothered to check the accuracy of the Navi fuel economy averages. I can't speak for the '06-'08 models that display readings within the gauge cluster, but I suspect it's the same.

After over 4-1/2 years of meticulously recording each and every mpg at fuel up, I've discovered the computer to be off between 12%-17%. I check my mileage the old school way by dividing miles driven by gallons consumed and rarely has it come close to the computers reading.

Has anyone else ever made this comparison?

I've seen many others here say they also have a discrepancy.

I have an '04 with no MID, so I can't make the comparison.

Thanks for that, than why do so many ppl put up these inflated mileage figures from their trip computers?

I guess not everyone calculates it by hand.

Personally, I usually get 24-26 driving around town in suburbia, and 32-35 on the hwy. And that's not inflated, those are real numbers by calculation.

I can agree with that. The point is there are so many variables to fuel mileage. When I drive home from my local station I like to see what the highest mileage I can achieve (according to the inflated trip computer). Even though it is inaccurate it does provide a basis for comparison.

In the 2 miles between the station and my house and depending on outside temp, wind, traffic, etc. the highest I ever averaged was 32.5 and the lowest was 19.4.
Just driving around "suburbia" as you do (no highway) I usually average 23.5 but in the winter and when it rains, it drops noticeably.

But on long trips to LA from Phoenix, I usually average 27-29 but of course speed, temp, prevailing wind direction, hills, luggage, passengers, etc., usually will usually have a negative influence.

I'm hoping my new Ron Jons are lighter than the stock wheels, so maybe I can sneak some more mpg in there.

One other complicating factor is the odometer error. Honda settled a class action lawsuit about the odometer consistantly reading (3%?) higher than actual mileage. 04, 05, and maybe 06 owners got a letter effectively extending their mileage based warranty. So, even the hand calculated mpg numbers may be inflated by these same 3%. YMMV

I've been using www.fueleconomy.gov for about a month or so BEFORE I got my TSX and continued to do so with the TSX, of course.

My normal commute is 18 miles one-way, mostly on Collins Ave (for those that know Miami). It's not stop & go, usually, but I'm not usually going over 42 mph. I'd say I average about 35 mph. I fill up every week and here are my numbers so far:
22.4, 20.7 and 25.2 mpg, according to fueleconomy.gov. The MID has been about 0.5 to 1.0 mpg off. Usually lower than what the actual miles since last fill up show.

This week I've been at our Palm Beach office so it's 62 miles one way but almost all on I95. I'd say I average about 80 mph, a few slow spots, where I'm down to 55/60 and a few bursts of 90/95 mph. So far according to the MID, I'm at 31.2 mpg!!! And before I got to my exit and did some street driving, it was at 32.1.

Tomorrow, I'm back to my normal commute so let's see how this averages out.

Haven't heard that one yet? Acura only sent me service bulletins extending the warranties for headlight fogging and HVAC/Radio switch back lighting failures.

Don't feel bad. I'm the 2nd owner of my TSX (I bought it CPO in 2005), and I've not received even one of the letters regarding TSBs or recalls. It's kind of annoying, since this site is the only way I'd know about these problems. And I know I sent in change of owner forms and stuff to them when I purchased the car, so there's no excuse. Plus I financed the car through Honda.

When I was using Mobil 1, i used to get around 27 on MID, and after Royal Purple, MID says i get 28.8 now after around 3000 miles...i think because the tempreture changed.....but still i don't think RP didn't kill mpg at least if it didn't improve......
it's 06 MT...i guess actual MPG is a little less than that...i don't baby nor drive agressive.....i drive heavy traffic or open road....local and hwy...i redline about once a day.....

You're mileage is pretty close to what I'm getting in similar conditions. I did just swap my winter tires and steelies for my all season tires on the stock wheels and I've seen about a 2mpg increase since then. I'm not sure what the weight difference was but it was notable when I was lugging the tires and wheels around. The winter tires also deform considerably more where they contact the ground so I'd suspect they have more rolling resistance.

the odometer tsb was sent to the original registered owners (according to the tsb). It cover vehicles purchased up to 11/7/06. I bought mine ten days too late even tho it was at the dealer in October. I am out of luck and I have 42,500 miles on it.

Yep. A few times, and will be doing it for the next few weeks as I try BP and Shell premium vice BJ's/Costco premium. I find the MID estimate is about 1 mpg (or roughly 5%) higher than my calculated tank-mileage.

Driving an AT here, and not usually driver aggressively. More so lately that I'm feelin' my oats.

They probably addressed the odometer problem at the factory which is why you're not covered. At least, I hope they did.

thankyou thankyou thankyou, this site is cool. I've started uploading my fill-up results, and see that I can upload an Excel file based on their template (which means I can use a Pocket Excel sheet on my aging PDA to record fill-up data and upload it). VERY COOL.

Wonder if this was "fixed" in a 3/2006 car which was resold CPO 7/2007....
