OEM =original equipment manufacturer, or the automotive companies themselves

This is actually an interesting question because these days the OEMs hardly ever manufacturer their own parts--people like Bosch, Johnson Controls, Arvin Meritor, Magna, Denko (or what are commonly known as Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers) actually manufacture most or all of the respective components or systems that go into the vehicles themselves. The OEMs mostly work with these suppliers in integrating it into a complete system.

Hehehe... There is also ODM as well. Just like ricecake said, manufacture hardly make their own stuffs now. They order it from ODM and bage it with your name.

(ODM = Original Designed Manufactuer)

For example, DELL's laptop are mostly from ODM where the ODM company designs it, bage it with DELL logo and then DELL sell it as their own laptop. (Correct me if I am wrong)
