remove the sound deadning in the car (won't be noticeable once you reinstall the carpet, but the interior noise will increase), remove the spare tire/jack/etc. in the trunk, carbon fiber hood, replace headers/intake/exhaust with aftermarket stuff (its usually lighter), replace windows with lexan windows (could be very expensive), different/smaller battery, repalce the stock 17's with lightweight 16's

Ummm...but isn't the overall wheel size the same as stock...YES.

Exactly. Lighter, smaller wheels with sticky tires and a light weight flywheel would make a HUGE difference.

Taking the amount of weight you are talking about out of the car will equal less than a tenth in the 1/4 mile. Trust me I have done it. I took almost 200 lbs out of an RSX and picked up less than .2 seconds...

Why is everyone giving this guy such a hard time? He just wants to make his car lighter. A accord euro r is 300 lbs lighter so there must be a way we can lose close to tat without loosing all or the creature comforts.

looks like this thread revival is bringing out the comedians that think it's funny to make unhelpful suggestions about a serious question...

you are absolutely right. I don't see how it helps anyone by being a comedian. I like my car, i want to keep it, i would just like it to be a little more sporty(closer to a euro r). I don't see why some people cannot understand that. If you have no constructive comment then shut up or go find some other immature fools to make stupid comments too, don't get in the way of an intelligent conversation.

Lighten up a little! I'm surprised you've been a member for 3 years but you didn't know that we like to take things easy around here...

There are a bunch of suggestions in this thread, that is if you actually read it before posting...

I would like to know how fast will your car be IF it's 300lbs less (according to your Euro-R weight).

Give up all your Leather seat, less sound dampening, CF hood/trunk, lighter engine, lose A/C and all Airbag... maybe you can accomplish...

in my opinion it's not about lightening up. there are a couple of suggestions at the very beginning of the thread, but then once one person came up with a sarcastic comment, it just degenerated to a "who can come up with a clever (though very few were) unrealistic option" thread. i'm all for a little sarcasm, but there was a real post in here somewhere.

oh well.

edit: the sentra bit was great stuff though

Easy way to make the car more peppy:

Lightweight flywheel
Lightweight wheels
Run on a 1/4 tank of gas all the time
CF hood and trunk
Remove spare tire

The problem I see is that ppl want all the luxury and sport. Even BMWs weight a lot.

The issue is not the weight of the car. And if the person asking this has a 5AT, I'm gonna lock this thread.

Last line was some sarcasm, should've marked it red, but seriously, you can take all the noise reduction material out, seats and such, except when does weight reduction really matter? Seriously, define at what point it matters.

You could drop in a racing seat to sit lower and push it back, move the steering wheel back, etc etc to make the car handle better, but I'm not getting the sense that that is the point of the thread. So dropping a few hundred pounds nets you what? You'd be better off dropping in the Comptech S/C for the smack in the butt I think is the point of this thread.

Again, my point is, you'll remove all of the essence of this car by trying to do weight reduction projects.

Oops, that post was in response to ruffellprefley, you must have posted while I was typing. It's a quote from The Big Lebowski and not meant to be sarcastic at all.

moda sounded like he was ready to throw it down! I think the best way to reduce the weight is making sure you have your car clean all the time (simplest way). You can remove the spare if you want, but just have a "fix a flat" ready instead. Overall, I don't think you can lose a few hundred pounds unless you want your car to look stripped or seem like it's missing something... If you're like me, I always have at least 15lbs of crap in my trunk and a few in front.

^^popdakebin... I'm just not sure what someone is trying to accomplish by doing weight reduction. If it is to get more speed or better handling, there are much better ways to go about it than stripping your car down. Removing a couple of hundred pounds, about the only way to see any improvement, will take away from what the car is about... a luxury sport sedan. However, if you do the Comptech S/C, Headers, cat, exhaust and a set of springs or better tires, sure some $6k later, but you'd accomplish a lot more than you would by tearing stuff out of your car. That's my only point. Why strip down your car for what amounts to maybe a tenth in a 1/4 mile or nearly nothing when it comes to handling corners.

I agree with moda. The car isn't that heavy anyway. The best thing to make it more sporty is to change the suspension, wheels and tires. Yes, weight reduction is great, but with this car, there really isn't too much to strip without it loosing character.

If you want to lose some weight, go the CF route with CF hood, trunk and maybe roof (think I saw one somewhere). You'll lose less than 100, but you may feel a difference since the center of gravity will be lower. It'll cost you an arm and a leg though. Another is what Moda said, which is performance. You won't care about weight if you're pumping 240whp because at that point, weight will not be as much an issue. This car doesn't seem as heavy as cars like the TL and G35, but they have power. If you add power, weight is less a factor.

First like the guys said remove all sound deadening material, plastic covers inside/ under the hood, intake resonator box and unwanted parts in the trunk. You can cut weight from bumpers/supports, remove any wings/ spoilers, do not add heavy stereo equipment, lightweight hood/ trunk/grill/ wheels. Most after market exhaust / headers will save a few pounds. No navi will save about 50 lbs. My car weighs 3085 w/o me and my 19" rims after cutting pounds off. It was very time consuming and hard to do but it was worth it when you are racing.

removing sound proofing isn't alot really. Most people who gut out the rear and spare only lose 100lbs.

This post is from 2004 the pictures are way gone...
