Is the weight of a Car an important factor?

I looked at the weight of the Tsx and it is 4300lbs, while the new TL is 4500lbs. Is a difference of 200lbs a big deal on a car with acceleration and handling?

TSX 6MT w/o Nav =3230 lb
TL 6MT w/o Nav=3482lb
Difference = 252lb

Can't compare the weight affects on two different cars.

there are so many other variable to consider in comparing 2 different cars.

in general lighter=quicker.

quickness depends: on engine displacement and individual torque/hp curves
trannny ratios
wheel/tire size
most importantly driver skill.

The weight and power was a problem for my TSX when I took it to the drag track last summer and October.

Most?

I read a nice quote somewhere that a good driver can't make a sluggish car quick, but a bad driver can make a quick car sluggish.

On a bet Paul Newman, driving a Volvo station wagon, raced a Porsche Boxster at the Lime Rock track. Newman won, driving the Volvo.

Most drivers come nowhere near to exploiting their vehicle's potential. The most cost-effective performance upgrade I ever did was to attend Skip Barber. Which reminds me, I should take a refresher course. New Years Resolution 2004-1. Thanks!

Yes well, perhaps it was this Volvo:

I think the original poster was reading the maximum (gross) allowable vehicle weight from the sticker, not the curb weight (which probably isn't there).

I'm pretty sure the car at Lime Rock was NOT one of Newman's RWD Ross Converse-modified V8 Volvos.

Rather, a box-stock FWD V70T5. (Newman owns an interest in several Volvo dealerships.)

For any with an interest in these "ultimate sleepers":
