Warmer weather; TSX is noticably more slugish

Now that the weather here is getting warmer, my car is noticably more slugish. Especially after 20 minutes of driving.

Anyone else notice this? Its not a huge difference, but I can definately feel it.

I wonder how much a cold air intake would help?

Absolutely. I notice it is stronger when I drive hard and the car isn't warmed up yet.
I bet one of those Hondata gaskets will give a big improvement. The cai can only help so much, it doesn't really drop the engine temp.
Im looking into getting a cooler T-stat for the hot climate.

Makes me wonder if it's a car issue, or a driver issue who's just bogged down by the hot weather. I know when it's 90 F here in SLO, I just want to stay at the beach.

A cooler temp T-stat will not help in lowering engine temp for the TSX because the cooling fan is still controlled by the radiator fan switch. A cooler temp T-stat will open earlier to allow circulation of coolant which means the engine will take longer to warm up. The cooling fan will remain off until the coolant temp reaches 196-203F.

When the intake air temp sensor (IAT) detects higher temp on an OBD2 setup, it signals the ECU to pull back fuel and ignition timing. The opposite is also true when the intake temp is cooler. The ECU adds fuel and increases ignition timing, thus the car feels peppier. That's why so many people selling "mod chip" on ebay to add a resistor to the IAT circuit to fool the ECU.

Yes but the ECU SHOULD pull back fuel, since the warmer (less dense) air will have less oxygen, and hence without this pullback the car could run rich.

This kinda ties into our discussion on CAI and fuel economy. The increase in fuel during colder air coming into the engine is neccesary, but may impact fuel economy (slightly).

fdl, where did you last fill up with gas?

My car was feeling more sluggish as well, especially right off the line. Does'nt seem to be a problem anymore, I mean sure its slightly cooler but there's a noticeable difference. Sadly last week I filled up at Husky to save 0.2 cents a litre. Yesterday morning I filled up with Sunoco 94 like usual and I'm thinking that damn Husky gas has something to do with my sluggish TSX?

Its funny you mention that,j ust today I was wondering if the TSX responds to higher than needed octane in the same was as the accord does (> 91 octane = more hp). Not sure if thats the case or not.

On the other hand, it is cooler today. The amount of time you have been driving also seems to make a big difference.

Today I filled up with sunoco 94 for 81.5 cents/litre. Thats right 81.5 for 94 octane (they were out of regular so they had to charge regular price for 94 octane).

You lucky bastard

I filled up yesterday morning so I've had almost 2 days to feel the difference and I'm seeing a big difference yesterday and today compared to last week. Maybe its in my head or maybe its the weather. I'll guess we'll find out this summer.

I wonder what the TSX would feel like with Octance booster after putting in 94 Octane. I used to do that all the time with my GS-R, ($2.99 a bottle at crappy tire) not sure it made a difference though.

can anyone prove beyond a doubt that the hondata gasket actually provides any gains that you can feel?

Proof is a dyno. The butt dyno is different with every person. I can feel the difference with syn oil and someone else may not be able to. You gotta do it and see for yourself, unfortunately.

Hmm... I don't feel any sluggish at all, feels the same to me. But I don't think by adding a higher octane would help in the car feeling less sluggish
