To wait or Not to wait...

Since I just found out about a "possible" TSX Coupe within a yr or two, Im thinking if I should wait for this "TSX Coupe" because that would definetly(sp) be a "younger car" IMO for me, than the current TSX

Do you think it's wise to wait for this "TSX Coupe" or should I just get the 06 or 07 TSX?

What you guys think?

If you wait 2 years for a TSX coupe, you are going to pay out the A$$ for it. You be lucky to get it for MSRP ($30K-$35K for the coupe). It will still be another 2 years on top of that before the mid-model refresh, upgrades in options, and all the engineering bugs worked out. The 3rd or 4th model years are the more trouble free compared to 1st/2nd model years.

I would only wait if your current car is good and your saving money while driving it. I'm saving money by driving my 97 Accord (wife has the TSX). I want to see what the next gen TLs have to offer in a few years (sh-awd, 3.7L or 3.8L engine, tech package, etc..)

As with many car purchasing decisions, if you wait 2 years you'll no doubt be getting a better car with more features, albeit, at a higher price. Also, you'll be depriving yourself of 2 years of driving an excellent car. Its a personal decision. I say buy now.

Yeah you have 3 cars just enjoy 1 of them~

But if you do want the TSX,
I personally wouldn't wait till the coupe comes out..

You're 19 , so you'll be in college or already attending college.

It's great to have a nice car on campus

wow, 3.8L? torque steer is already noticeable w/ the current 3.2L ~258 HP engine..... why would you want more power?

Since they are killing the RSX it seems almost garanteed to see a 2-door TSX at some point, but I doubt you'll see it until 2008 with the 2nd gen TSX, at the earliest. Thats at least a year and a half to wait at the earliest, but probably more like 2-2.5 yrs until you could get a good deal on one. you would probably be ready for a new car by then anyway if you bought something now.

sh-awd + 3.7L or 3.8L engine for the TL. We are in the early stages of the hp war with the competition. You are going to see every model of Acura increase the hp and/or engine displacement in the next 2-4 years (and maybe sh-awd as a bonus).

There will ALWAYS be "the next great thing" in the future. Just ask yourself if you need a new car now (same with in the future). If the answer is "no" or "maybe", then don't get anything. The TSX is a great car now. If/when the coupe came out you'll probably ask yourself "should I wait for the 2nd year of this model to have fewer problems"? And if you wait you'll ask "should I wait another year or so for the refresh?" Etc.

Considering that the "possible" coupe would not be out until at least a year into the production of the next generation TSX, I wouldn't hold my breath about getting even a glimpse of one anytime soon. Don't expect details until at least 2008 at the earliest and possibly not until 2009.

I would say just take the opportunity to get a 2006 or 2007 TSX now and then you can decide in a few years if you're ready to make that change.

mrgold35,

I like your avatar, looks like you got some nice BBS wheels and no suspension drop. Can you post some more pics? I'm looking to get some summer tires and possibly 17" ASA AR1 wheels.

As for the original post, get an '07 with six speed. Rumors are unreliable, and Honda/Acura seems like the only company truly wed to the idea of environmental stewardship by being the last holdout to make an 8-cylinder engine. Point being that they are rumored to be developing a V8 too, but will probably not do it.

I wouldn't count a coupe either. Honda killed the Prelude, in favor of the Integra coupe. Then killed theIntegra in favor of the RSX, and killed that in favor of the Civic Si. On the other hand, the TSX has been much more popular than Acura expected, and the RDX is considered to the TSXs sister.

Unless you don't mind paying a little more, figure an aditional $3,000 minimum, since Acura is moving the brand "up." Figure that the next TSX may cost slightly less than the new RDX as a guide.

Key word: Possible

It's just rumors....until we see spy shots of it, I wouldn't hold my breath. It may not even be related to the TSX. Or maybe they might not want to fill the slot and just sell the more expensive cars.

Don't wait for rumors...the question really should be: Should I get an 06/07 TSX now, or stick with my current car? If you're just considering it because it's a coupe, then you might not be happy with the sedan.

You can always buy a TSX now, and trade it in later. They hold their value well.

Hmm ic...yeah I would prefer coupe over sedans....but there aren't that many good coupes out there...(Civic Si/RSXS/3 series) in that price range

Well I would like a nice car for myself to drive just for recreation/school purposes

Also still thinking about TL or TSX, as of now(without test driving either) i'd think i'd go with the TSX because it's more "younger" than the TL

Just woundering, Im looking to buy a MT6 but Im not that great in manual(like I know how to drive it but i'd stall from time to time), How would i go on "test driving" the TSX MT6? would they mind?

I would bring a buddy that knows how to drive a MT and pray the salesguy lets you two go alone without him tagging along. It happened to me a few times, including test driving a BMW. But you really don't need to test drive the MT in the TSX. It's one of the best =).

Get your friend to get it out of the dealer, then you can practice "grinding until you find it" on the stealerships car...just kidding.

Sorry for the manual tranny recommendation, I just assumed you drove stick. I just can't see pairing a 4-cylinder engine to an automatic. Autos tend to rob power, and while the car will still be fun to drive, you may feel like it is a dog after a while.

Just take into consideration that all the praise and accolades the TSX has is from magazines that tested the manual version, not the auto.

no matter what you get, or whenever you get it, there will always be something better.

if you feel like you are ready to purchase a tsx now, why not...

Im pretty sure, the sales rep sits behind you everytime you "test drive" so would I just go a "test drive" it? or should I bring someone that can test drive it?(like a friend)
