vtec (stupid question)

I have been reading about the vtech and I know what it does, but since I'm stilll breaking in my car, I have not taken it much over 5ooo on the tac. When does the vtech kick in, and what does it feel and sound like?

Thanks,
Ken

VTEC kicks in at around 6000 rpms. When it kicks in, it's a loud, menacing, growl. However, if you don't have an intake, the crossover to VTEC is barely noticable.

kicks in around 6k

and as others have said, if you don't have a cold-air or short-ram intake you won't be able to hear the difference....

do you have a auto or manual tranny?

Make sure to use Honda VTEC fluid every oil change too. Because then you can never go into VTEC.

I like to describe the feel as a "greater sense of urgency". Very appropriate when you consider how much faster the tach climbs to redline.

The car is a 6 speed, and as yet I have no mods. We leave for a cruise on March first, and when we get back, I'm going to start moding it a little. I made an intake for my 4.7 Dakota, and it worked great, been on the truck since 2001 and no problems yet. Dont know if I want to make one for the tsx or not. Dont know how "PICKY" it is yet. What works for the truck, may not work well for the car.

Anyone here ever make their own intake?

vtech fluid, good one But, on the other-hand, forgetting to fill your turn signal fluid is no laughing matter. It may just save a life!

Thanks guys!
Ken

Haha when i hit vtec I dunno if its an auto thing, but I never felt it.... Just felt like the power was exactly the same no matter where I was since the tach already started to climb like crazy once I hit 3k. I didn't hear a vtec growl either heh even after climbing up to 120mph maybe just me I guess =/ I should go install an intake ASAP

Call Hondata. $100 more gets you 1000RPMs more VTEC.
