Is the VTEC on this car supposed to be linear?

is there a boost or a sound change that occurs or is the sound and acceleration unnoticeable? I dont really notice anything in my car.

There is a slight boost in power around 6000rpm, but nothing to throw you out of your seat.

and a slight sound change, but not much. it doesn't throw you back in your seat, but it keeps the engine pulling all the way past redline instead of dying up top

To me, vtec sounds kinda like a rush of air after 6K. I know its not air, but thats what it sounds like to me.

while regular VTEC is an awesome rush, the K series beats the B and H series in every way. A ton more torque and a lot more linear, so it doesn't have to rely on that surge to make power. iVtec even if its not a visceral feeling.

I disagree totally. The H22A in my lude is a much more fun engine to drive hard. At 5000 rpm the cams switch profiles and there is a complete change in the character of the engine (I can only liken it to the sound of a champ car) with a definite kick in the pants to boot. Plus, the K24 in the TSX has.2 liters more displacement but only 9 more lb/ft of torque than the H22A, which is not exactly impressive.....

PEAK torque, yes. But look at the power curves...there's more torque early on than the H22A. Overall = more power from the engine.

like i said, the k series is not visceral, but engineering wise its better. i got my tsx dyno'd w/ CAI and my roommate got his 97 H22A Prelude w/ every bolt on (CAI, header, exhaust, underdrive pullies, VAFC) tuned on a dyno w/ wideband. My results, 175/150, his 180/144 and the K series produces a whole lot more torque down low. Yes it displaces more, and the max is not too different, but its where it uses it.

That's not to add, much better fuel consumption, a lot lower emissions, etc..

NO way the old H22 is a better engine than the K24. The K24 is the TSX is a great engine, its just limited by the high weight of the TSX. If you could fit that K24 into a 'lude it would kick ass.

I'm in no way saying that the K24 isn't a great engine. It is. I just prefer the noticeable kick when VTEC kicks in of the H22. As a side note, I raced a friend of mine's RSX Type-S (which has a similar K-series engine) and it was dead even. Both cars are completely stock.

The RSX K20+tranny is definitely the same power as a H22A in a Prelude. Even though it's a smaller engine.
