I hope since we have the new Canadian navigation system (new in 2005), that we're not getting one that wasn't fully tested. Doesn't make sense, since all they should have done was make a new CD for the US version. Let me check out my voice commands tonight to make sure I don't have a lemon navigation...
hm... I don't think I have much problem with the touch screen (except when my husand was driving and when I got some bumpy ride while trying to touch the screen... ). Other than that, I found another thing was the auto setup of the Display screen. It doesn't turn to night mode when it's night or vice versa. We always have to manually change it. The agent said it should be controlled by turning on the headlights, but this doesn't work either. We are going to get it fixed next week at the same time.

Ya... check the voice command out and should get it fixed ASAP. I found it very, very useful (when it works... hahaha) and you can even change radio station by saying 'radio FM 102.1'!!!! So no more dangerous driving because you have to look at the console to make changes.

I thought he already found out which part was faulty and placing an order already...

Maybe it's configured to do French recognition?!

I am lurking on this thread even though I don't have Nav coz I've used voice rec. software way back in early part of 90's on IBM OS/2 Warp. The voice rec. on that desktop OS worked pretty well and does not need user training. I am assuming the voice rec. on TSX Nav does not need user training as well?

hm... now you make me think... maybe they are just going to order everything in and then do the diagnostic and then replace / reconfigure whatever is / are needed...

hahahaha, if that's the case... can I get a Chinese one? Cantonese in specific pleeeeeeeeze... hehehe

It doesn't need training for sure. We just jumped into the demo car and both of us tried and it works like miracle!!!!

hahaha, maybe I talk a little too fast and make myself a little tongue twister?! If it's Chinglish, it'll be typing rec. instead of voice rec... hm... interesting...

I think the software is Via Voice (or some algorithm based on that engine). So its quite possible that you could have some switch for French (or different DVD)?

I think you can set the language in the NAVI (at least for Canada version of TSX) to English or French. No chinese yet... for me.

hahahaha, you are sooooo funny Glad to let me know that English and French are the only official languages. English is already hard for me, French is deemed as impossible for me. Don't give me anything more than that.

Um... you do know that you can "calibrate/adjust" the sensitivity of the microphone? When i stepped into the tsx nav, i could not for the life of me get it to adjust to 70 degrees. But i started fiddling around with the mic settings.

You go into the navigation "setup". The geeky screen. I think you have to hold down cancel, and the two buttons to the left of it for 5 seconds. When that screen comes up goto "functional setup" then hit "mic volume" (not sure of the exact phrase, but there's only one choice for microphone.

That's when the screen for mic adjustment will come up. hit the "talk" button on the steering wheel and let go.

Now here's the tricky part, the louder you talk at this point, the louder the Nav system assumes you normally talk. So it will reduce sensitivity to the mic and will be harder for it to understand commands.
What i did was spoke as quietly as possible. Giving the calibration only 3 bars.

After that... every command i spoke with was understood perfectly.

Give that a shot, and let me know how it goes.

hm... interesting... do you know if I do it wrong, will it cause problem to my NAVI? I don't want to risk screwing it more than what it is now... Since mine is a lease will it be possible that if they know that I played with its setup, will they charge me for getting it fixed?

Another thing is that it only has 10% problem getting my 'air conditioner' command but all the rest fail. So do you think it's the mic having problem?

I think it's the Mic sensitivity problem. It's probably just set too non-sensitive. Plus everybody's voice is different. So it just needs to be adjusted.
I'm pretty sure you can't mess it up
I'm also pretty sure if you do mess it up, you can always just unplug the battery for a few minutes and it should reset itself back to default.

ALso, something that helps before doing temperature and radio etc...
is to actually say
"air conditioning 68 degrees" instead of juts saying "68 degrees".
Same with radio.

I am sure you can't break anything by using the set up screens of the system. They can't possibly charge you for anything - you are just adjusting the voice rec. system as you should; like adjusting your seat using the seat buttons... can they charge you if the button falls off when you press on it like you should?!

And I do not recommend unplugging the battery as a "reset to default", no such need whatsoever; why mess around with other parts of the car when it's just the Nav components or just a setup/config issue...

I know that there's no need to unplug the battery to reset everything since this is a relatively simple adjustment.
I was just trying to make "jpoon" feel better about it.

I realize that... but I am afraid if she had really unplugged the battery, the need to reset radio system (security code) and possibly other things may make her even more than she already seems to be

You got these effects to stay after you turned the car off and back on again?

I believe it. I think it would make a big difference in the voice rec. accuracy.

jpoon, have you tried it yet?

What?? My navi doesn't say "pardon" or "can you repeat?"... Is it a newer version thing?

I did, and it seems to work, i spoke very quietly during the test recording, and now I can either whisper or shout voice commands and they work both ways. Mic seems more sensative now and responds better. I recomend everyone doing this if they have had recognition issues, or if they feel they have to shout at the Navi

Day 1 with Service on Voice Command unit

Brought the car to dealer yesterday morning and I'm guessing that they have put in a new unit into my car... all settings gone... all previous addresses gone... GONE!!!!! sigh.....

They said they think it's the mic receiver problem, so they've ordered the part in, but they are not sure when they will get it... 2 days up to 2 weeks!!!! sigh.....

Scratch on door switch panel is not fixed either... ordered... waiting... sigh....

Found a couple of scratch marks on the passenger side when picking up the car yesterday... going to try use some cleaner to see if it's dirt mark or real scratch mark... if it's real scratch mark... they are dead meat!!!!!

So they have positively identified which parts are causing the problems in your unit?

In the meantime, have you kept trying to tune your voice rec. and see if it has fixed itself or something?

Otherwise, how are you enjoying your car?
