Used TSX, should I pull the trigger?

Guys, looking at an;

04 TSX
33k miles
Silver black leather
6sp
Nav

dealer pretty firm on their 17999 price.

I have some psychological thing about paying asking, even though i know its a good price. Could i get this car for 17500? Save 10 bucks a month? lol.

How bad do you want the car? I would guess they don't have prospective buyers lined up since it's a 6 speed. They're popular here (on this website), but remember we're just one gumball in a machine full of them and the manual trans. TSX pulls a very small percentage of sales. If it's the car you want, and you don't want to play the waiting game for fear of losing it, then bite the bullit. A year or two from now you won't remember what you paid, and even if you do, you won't care and it won't matter. Otherwise, make your offer and see if they come to you. You don't mention if the seller is an Acura dealer, but if it is remember that it's a 4 year old car and even though they decided to sell it rather than send it to the auction (probably due to the low mileage and they may own it cheap, again possibly due to the 6 speed), they may be ready to move it.

That price apears to be much much less than suggested retail price according to KBB.com . The car must have been in a wreck or salvaged or something to cause a dealer to practicly give it away.

2004 Acura TSX Sedan 4D: $25,125
Mileage: 33,000
Engine: 4-Cyl. 2.4L VTEC
Transmission: 6 Speed Manual
Drivetrain: FWD

The 6 speed with nav is the only way to go though, so that's a plus.

If you can deal with the AC crapping out and the console lights going out, and it checks out ok with carfax, then go for it. Otherwise (and I recommend this) wait for an '05 or newer.

Sorry, I'm just a little bitter that I've made about 5 trips to the dealer in the last month and a half for the console lights and AC, and the AC STILL isn't working. And it's been effing hot here, too.

Thanks for the opinions guys. The car is in the NYC metro area and i know the 6sp isnt desireable in this area becuase of the traffic. The dealer has had the car for about two weeks. Carfax checks out with one owner. The dealership owner "claims" the car was his neigbors son, who ready for this, traded it in on an srt4 the dealership owner had. The car is clean as hell. Im gonna lowball him for 17k even, and hope we can meet at 17500.

Its not an acura dealership. Just a regular used car lot.

I used to sell cars breifly. 6 months actually. It was enugh to learn the ins and outs of the business. One thing i did learn was kbb and edmunds didnt mean sh!t to a dealership. Dealerships use the galves guide. And i did order a 1 month subscription, even galves claims the prices for this car is

Trade in; 17300
Market Ready; 18600

So 18k even is the avg of those two. I think Im getting greedy. I'll still try the lowball, will leave if he doesnt bite, take two trips around the block then come back and buy it, lol.

Sometimes when things look to good to be true, they are. When dealing with cars, that "Sometimes" is "Always".

I bought my 06 AT no/nav w/5K miles for $26,500. A lot of folks probably will say I over-paid, but it was close enough to my target and they did give me a generous price on my trade. That said, here is a car 2 years older, 28K miles older, w/Nav, for $8,500 less.

I'd crawl all over that car with a flashlight and look for anything suspicious - maybe even take it to a mechanic. $75 to check it out may be worth it. If it's $2-3K less than book, that's a red flag, not a time to get excited. I used to sell Acuras back in the early 90's. Believe me if a car is that much less than book, there is a reason, and it's not a good one.

Book is 17300. So @ 18k he's looking at 700+ profit. Prob not what he wanted becuase he was asking 20k 2 weks ago, but as I said earlier in NYC 6 sp are less desireable.

You haven't given nearly enough information to ask random people if it's possible to get a better deal on the car.

For starters, where is this car located?

Are you trading in a car and if so, has this already been discussed with the dealer?

How does the CARFAX check out?

Are you financing the car from the dealer?

Etc.

Car is in NYC Metro

No trade in

Carfax says one owner, 1 accident;

"involving left rear impact
It hit another motor vehicle
Left side primarily damaged"

My first reaction to reading that was some sort of parking lot accident. I looked for damage, i didnt see discoloration, panels misaligned etc. The dealership claimed he hit another neighbors car while backing out of the driveway. Damage limited to drivers rear qtr panel.

I have my own financing lined up.

I picked up an '04 non navi 6spd with 60k on it for $16,500 out the door. They were asking almost 18 for it but the car had some things wrong with it, headlight moisture, center console lights out and some other real minor things. Did some research, found out it was all under warranty, talked the dealer down and bought it. After i had everything fixed, i went back to the used car dealer to pick up some papers and they just stared at it, like wtf? ha. Then they found out it was free to fix and seemed to get an attitude. sometimes you win. but just check it out REAL good. good luck!!

Well that sucks. It did seem like a good price for a very lightly used TSX. It's going to be hard to find Navi + 6MT. Maybe save some $$$ by going non-navi on an '05 or '06? The 05's had better build quality than the 04's. And the '06's got numerous goodies in the update.

I know, I was pissed off. And the funny thing is, our power went out at home last night because of some wicked t-storms, but it came back on when my alarm went off. I got to work at 8, and the power was still out there. So, no AC all around!!! My boss let us go home at 10:45 since the power was still not on. I'm dropping the car off tonight and if they still say they don't know what's wrong, I'll have to go to another dealer. It's a million degrees and so humid out...

Yeah i know, i should have put a deposit on it on Saturday when i first saw it but i didnt have my funds secured yet.

yeah its kind of a bummer now becuase i even though i dont need nav and have never had a car with it, i kind of want it now. That wont last long though ultimatly i just want a 6 sp with black leather.

But who knows maybe the guy will flake. The salesman was telling me the guy was an amish guy from North Carolina. Im like hold up they cant drive. He was like yeah i said the same thing and he responded, some rules i follow and some i dont.

Its ashame, i picture this thing sitting behind a barn somewhere in the country only to be driven when they need to visit relatives in another state or something.
