Upgrades for future TSX - Top 10

Hey all,

I just wanted to list some things that I would really like to see added to up and coming TSXs. I guess this thread is in relation to the "What don't you like about your TSX" thread, but I wanted to hear your feedback. So here goes:

1) Obviously, more power would be great. To me, it doesn't matter if this is accomplished with 2 extra cylinders or the current 4, or even with a turbo (more power definitely required at bottom end - yah, mine is a 5AT.

2) Stock 18s - but nothing chrome or even resembling chrome (this should have been No. 1).

3) LED lighting.

4) Bi-xenon HIDs.

5) Smoother leather.

6) Formula 1-style Paddle Shift (just like the Lexus IS).

7) 'Bigger' side mirror turn indicators - once again, LED.

8) More aggressive rear-end styling (driving behind one, other than the dual exhaust, the car looks plain and weak).

9) Back-up/reverse camera - just like what was added to the TL for '07

10) Wider stance.

Guys, let me know what points you agree/disagree with. If Honda/Acura were to incorporate the above, the MSRP is obviously likely to go up. But I bet the car would still be priced lower than, say, an Infiniti G35 Coupe.

Here from ya soon!

Pretty good list there, but I wouldn't mind the SH-AWD or RWD with the added HP.

The indicators on the side mirror are LEDs.

I agree with most of that list... probably add to that memory seats AND mirrors, and maybe a compass (OK, i'm grasping!)

#1 Better brakes

I wouldn't want paddle shifters unless the car has a DSG. If I had to have an auto, I perfer the way the sport shift mode is now, I like taking one hand off the wheel (I have a 6 MT)

Smoother shifting 8 speed auto tranny
Paddle shifts
Stay 4 cyl, but destroke it. Let it rev...
Better leather (my wife's Toyota Sienna has WAY better leather!)
Better brakes!
More variants

At this size vehicle, power, and balance, I think the benefit of RWD or SH-AWD can be negligible. However, if it is done in an effort to compete, well I see nothing wrong with that.

Definitely the memory mirrors...the fact the 06 and 07 have memory seats without memory mirrors is kind of dumb if you ask me.

BETTER STEREO SYSTEM if anything just the damn speakers....I'm so disappointed with my stock speakers that I can't wait to upgrade them. Would Bose or Boston Acoustics be asking too much?

stock rims are better than average but still needs improvement...maybe something more aggressive..take BMW's approach.

Maybe factory tinted windows so that we won't have to worry about scratches?

Actually now that I think about just keep everything the same cause why would I want future owners to have a better equipped TSX than me? Yeah...I'm a hater.

Well, i thought i had it all covered - guess not. I can't believe I left out road noise and better brakes (but, at first, I was thinking of 'additions', not 'improvements').

Hey AARONNG, my bad - didn't know those were LED. We gotta have those for the interior and tailights, though.

I would prefer AWD - I heard that the system on the RDX is happenin.

Memory seats: included from '06 on, correct?

PS - the '09 TL is supposed to come with AWD, right? BTW, I think that the stock rims on the '07 TL are tragic. Acura has to seriously add nice 18s as stock to TSX/TL - look at the competition. The Type S ones are weak, too.

You beat me to it.

I'd say have a base 2.4 with 215 HP -- I'm sure they can find a way to squeeze 10 more HP out w/o increasing displacement.

Then....

Have a Type-S or even Type-R 2.4 w/ 8200 RPM redline putting out 240ish. If they do this, make sure its impossible to fit a Civic hatch or any other old Honda chassis!!

You guys bought a Sienna?

18s!!!!!!!! Now u got me started (actually, I'm the one that started this thread - LOL). Keep it between 5 and 10 spokes and aluminum - works for me. Yah, the Beamer approach would be nice (the rims on the M3 and even 330 are totally cool)

I do hope they get variants that will put out 240 hp, and have sharper performance on all fronts. Dreaming further, it would be nice to be able to configure suspension settings, throttle response, etc, via a switch on the steering wheel, like Ferrari's f430. Just think, a comfort mode for the family, and a sport or race mode for a little fun....

Yes, about two weeks ago. Found a good deal on a used one. It's very smooth, very nice and roomy... and I hate admit, it has much better leather than our "luxury" TSX's.

In for a 260hp 2.6L V6 which spins to 8000rpm. Use a HD clutch and keep the 6MT (but beef it up a little and use a shorter final drive). Then let it have RWD (because SH-AWD is too heavy). Improve the audio system, and include the RL's noise cancelling system for the interior. Then... keep the weight to the same 3100 lbs.

The torque must get over 200 lbs/ft without the rpm at this peak level moving over 4500rpm - more displacement/adjustment of intake manifold will be needed. I think this can be done with a normally aspirated engine 4 cylinder (especially with direct injection and advanced i-VTEC tuning, 2.5L size). Must have the TL's audio system and us Canadians need to see text in the radio display (radio without the NAVI). They should be able to do the above without a greater than 3-4% increase in the MSRP; which is reasonable. Change the drive system and then see the price skyrocket. I want to see FWD continue as I drive in Toronto not the Sears Point race track.
Daytona today!!!!!

By FAR the most important - taller 6th gear for lower highway cruising RPM.
Then get rid of the DBW lag.

These would be nice too:
Rear HVAC vents
One touch up/down on windows + moonroof
LED tails
Better HVAC operation for nav equipped models (not having to go to touchscreen)
Better secondary display, like the TL's (the display above the center vents)
Better leather
Integrate power mirrors into the driver memory setting

Fully integrate Bluetooth with the navigation system so that the car will upload your address book automatically (like the BMW) and have a key pad on the touch screen so if you are calling someone not in your address book or need to type in a password (voice mail) it is all right there (like the Lexus). I am sure that is not that difficult to do, I think all of the hardware is there (the Bluetooth module that is linked to the NAV), it is only a software issue.

#2
A TSX Type-S (I don't care what they do to it, wheels, appearence, interior, engine... whatever)

#3
Definately Bi-Xenons (as mentioned earlier)

#4
A single key with the remote in one. Since all Acura's come standard with keyless entry, why not make it all one unit?

#5
LED tail lights (as mentioned earlier)

Besides that, I love my TSX. Some people say that it needs a V6, but that's what the TL is for. For what it is, the TSX is great. (Hopefully they come out with some cool features by 2009, when it's time for a new one)

1). Turbo, no reason the TSX or any honda for that matter can't compete with EVO and STi.
2). Sound deadening, the road noise gets annoying, however; I enjoy hearing my exhaust...dillemas
3). LED taillight
4). A new approach to all of the wheels in the acura line up, even the "upgrade" ones
5). Upgraded sound, maybe Mark Levinson (or whatever) found in Lexus
6). Fewer dash buttons (also like lexus and BMW)
7). LSD
8). Make the step up more than just navi, bigger engine, some sort of exterior designation, WE LIKE STATUS!!!!

1.WiFi so we can surf for porn
2.Condom Dispenser (For emergency)
3.Hidden compartment to stash drugs etc.
4.BlueRay DVD player so we can watch porn in Hi-Def while we drive.
5.all TSX should come standard with an Assault Rifle (incase of a Road Rage incident)
6.The Passenger seat should be able to fold 90 degree, so there's room for you and your girlfriend, wife, prostitute, etc. to be able to have sex safely.

The only thing that really bugs me about the TSX is the lack of the native ability to play MP3/WMA files. And better leather would help.

Hey ELLAS9, Daytona? I'm going to go away from Acura for a moment, but we all know that the 'REAL' race season starts March 18. That's when the F1 season starts - the most technologically-advanced and fastest race cars on the planet.

M. Schumacher, we're sorry to see you go. You will always be the champ.

Daytona? Nascar? Cmon now!

I initially said in my thread starter that the MSRP will likely go up. But, actually, it shouldn't - not if Acura wants to stay competitive. I encourage them to take Infiniti's approach with the G35 coupe and sedan. I looked at the specs and there's some real neat stuff included. But, then again, those cars a priced a little higher. I guess we can't have it both ways.

PS - have any of you seen the new Lexus IS 6? HAPPENING!!!!

Warning - this is off-topic! If anyone can point me at a thread, please do so... I haven't found one yet.

My TSX is 6 weeks old. The stereo sucks. We have other issues with the car and took a TL home for the long weekend. The sound system in the TL is beyond good so Acura knows how to do it - just not in the TSX.

My question is this (thus the thread I'm looking for) - Is it really the speakers that are the problem? I stopped at my local high-end car audio place today, and they can replace the speakers with Alpine or another high end brand. I don't want to spend the money unless I have to.

I totally agree, and hearing that the k23a turbo in the RDX will be in the next TSX is awesome!

2) Stock 18s - but nothing chrome or even resembling chrome (this should have been No. 1).
This one I will have to disagree on, since the ACURA TSX really isn't an all out sports car, the 18's will only increase cost for the car, if anything, take away from the new found power because of unsprung weight, and also greatly increase tire cost for those who do not intend to use their car in a sporty way whatsoever. I'm getting 18's for my TSX, but I just don't think it's something that ACURA should do, it will hinder the sales of the TSX for sure...my two cents

3) LED lighting.
oh yeah

4) Bi-xenon HIDs.
nah...I'm a valet, I drive cars with bi-xenons all the time, all I can say is, there is always a lag when the discharge bulb position changes to change to high beam, and when in need, yellow is always better than WHITE

5) Smoother leather.
Definitely needed, but afraid that this will greatly increase cost...

6) Formula 1-style Paddle Shift (just like the Lexus IS).
I think that will be standard equipment for just about any performance oriented car now

7) 'Bigger' side mirror turn indicators - once again, LED.
I think they look fine right now

8) More aggressive rear-end styling (driving behind one, other than the dual exhaust, the car looks plain and weak).
I beg to differ on this one...I think the TSX's back end is one of the sexiest in the world, simple and sculpted...for example, the LEXUS IS's backend looks gerat at first, but it gets boring after awhile...again...my two cents

9) Back-up/reverse camera - just like what was added to the TL for '07
This is awesome...as a valet, it is something I use ALL THE TIME...mercedes makes the best one

10) Wider stance.
sure

some one my own...

1. foglights like the old IS300...intense yellow
2. thicker steering wheel (M3 is my favorite car steering wheel wise)
3. rear wheel drive please!!
4. offer a type-s version, and forget all I said about the 18's and stuff up there...go all out!!
5. Autostart (I didn't know until I became a valet, most rental cars, GM, Chevy, Caddy, have autostart on the remote...
6. LED headlights that changes colors so we won't have to fight about people getting 12000k pointless HID bulbs..(very unlikely, but hey...it doesn't hurt to dream, I don't think that will trinkle down to ACURA in less than 3-4 years)
7. smaller turning radius
8. better stock tires
9. get rid of the green color
10. COUPE VERSION

God bless

Kevin

Bluesolara,

"Increase cost?" Yah, but it will also increase appearance. Just because it isn't an "all-out sports car", it doesn't mean it can't have 18s. 18s will be basic very soon, if not already. The more spokes a rim has, the smaller the appearance (unless we're talking 20 and above). So, with an increase from 7 to 9 spokes (in 2006), I think 18s are a must (BMW 3 sedan, Audi, Lexus, Infiniti, etc. - most in these manufacturer's line-up are not "all-out sports cars").

I still think the back-end looks weak.

Also, I don't think a turbo will have much problem with the additional weight of the 18s. (Think about it: the TSX has 50 series tires - that's ancient - and should have around 225/40 or 45/18. 18s are a MUST!

Yellow fog lights will make the car look dated - they would go great with halogen lows The current ('06 on) fog-lights look fine - but a sharper beam will be nice.

The new IS's back-end looks much better than the TSX (it looks less-
'Toyota' and more 'Lexus'/ the TSX back-end looks very 'Honda').

Auto-start and better rubber for sure. I'm not even saying that they have to be Z-rated summers - just a much better all-season (I'm disappointed with the Pilots - that's a surprise).

I'd go with AWD, just because of the winters.

I don't know if 18s are a necessity. Maybe for the mid-cycle revision or a Type-S, but probably not in the first model year.

The back-end does need a little more width, less overall height or both. Maybe some more distinctive tail lights with an exterior third brake light.

I'd like to see the weight stay down which probably means the turbo engine.

Upgrade the leather quality for better look and feel, but try to keep the price down. Maybe leave the rear seats alone.

6) Formula 1-style Paddle Shift (just like the Lexus IS).
I think that will be standard equipment for just about any performance oriented car now

Mid-cycle revision or Type-S, but not in the first model year. Keep the paddles low key without sticking out too much.

7) 'Bigger' side mirror turn indicators - once again, LED.
I think they look fine right now

I agree with this one. The wider indicators look better when blinking. Think of Mercedes indicators.

Could use a little more width and possibly less overall height.

9) Back-up/reverse camera - just like what was added to the TL for '07
This is awesome...as a valet, it is something I use ALL THE TIME...mercedes makes the best one

This is useful, but will add more expense. Maybe in mid-cycle once again.

10) Wider stance.
sure

some one my own...

1. foglights like the old IS300...intense yellow
2. thicker steering wheel (M3 is my favorite car steering wheel wise)
True and possibly smaller diameter although current gauges are very nice.

3. rear wheel drive please!!
I only see FWD or AWD. Honda has only done one RWD in recent times and unfortunately I don't think that's going to change. It would be great surprise if the change occurred though.

4. offer a type-s version, and forget all I said about the 18's and stuff up there...go all out!!
5. Autostart (I didn't know until I became a valet, most rental cars, GM, Chevy, Caddy, have autostart on the remote...
This is a nice option, but the fob size needs to be a reasonable size.

6. LED headlights that changes colors so we won't have to fight about people getting 12000k pointless HID bulbs..(very unlikely, but hey...it doesn't hurt to dream, I don't think that will trinkle down to ACURA in less than 3-4 years)
7. smaller turning radius
No argument here.

8. better stock tires
Most definitely.

9. get rid of the green color
10. COUPE VERSION

God bless

Kevin
The next generation should have better noise isolation. There's still a little too much road noise even with better tires.

Better leather (my wife's Toyota Sienna has WAY better leather!)
Better brakes!
This one is overlooked, but I think it's because the TSX is a little heavy. If there's a way to drop some weight and upgrade the brakes, that would be nice. I don't see any weight loss happening any time soon however.

More variants

At this size vehicle, power, and balance, I think the benefit of RWD or SH-AWD can be negligible. However, if it is done in an effort to compete, well I see nothing wrong with that.
I have a hard time seeing RWD happening.
