Under Dash Lights

I am wanting to install Blue underdash lights on my 06 RBP. Anyone knows of a store in or around Sacramento, where i could get this done, or is there a DIY on it. I want them to come on, when i turn on the headlights.
Thanks in advance

Don't take it to a store, it's pretty easy to do, all you need is four LED's (if you're doing front and back, and some wires and resistors). I just taped it into a wire that turns on when the interior lights (and of course the exterior lights) are on.

You'll probably spend $10 and a couple of hours doing it at the most.

it depends what you want to do. do you want the lights to turn on when you open the door, when you turn on the exterior lights, when you hit a switch? there's many different ways to wire up interior lights

I used cold cathode tubes myself. Broader spread of light than LED, very thin and light, easy to conceal and super bright. They accent my ultimate pedals perfectly as well.

So can anyone tell me, how can i hook it up such that it comes on, when the exterior lights comes on and also when doors open. Well, if it is simple to do just with the exterior lights, i would prefer to do that. I have no clue where to get the lights from and wat kind of resistors to use

get a helm's manual if you want to do it right, it has every wiring diagram you would need. you don't really need a resister if you do LEDs, you mostly need that for things that blink like turn signals.

I did it the easy (but probably ghetto) way, I just found a light that turns on with the headlights, which in my case is the green little light in the center storage compartment below the radio / A/C control. I just tapped into that wire, it's just a quick and easy way to do it. You don't HAVE to use resistors, but at 12V, the LED's are probably going to burn out faster. I think I used some 390ohms (or something around that range is usually best) resistors.

I was actually going to rewire it so that it's tapped into the little blue ambient light right above and outside the storage compartment, so that it dims with the guage lights with the adjustment knob.

Also, as a tip, you can sand the tip of the LED a little so that it's flat. That way, the light will spread instead of being like a spot light. My results are pretty good.

I just did some wiring yesterday with leds, i tapped into the light in the glove box and the leds go on when you turn on your parking or driving lights,

I'm going to try sanding them down today.
I used some splitters and speaker wires.

That sounds like a good idea. I will try to tap it from the Glove box as well. But
1. Dont the wires get damaged when you open and close the glove. How and where did you take the wires out of the glove.
2. Also i did not look properly, but is there space to extend wires from behind the stereo, (not by taking out any panel) to run the wire from one side to another.
3. Did you use a two way tape or wat to keep the lights in place.

I jsut bought two 12V 6" tubes yesterday. and will try installing them during the week.

Ok...you guys gonna laugh at me but what does it mean to "tap" into anotehr wire for power? Doesn't that require cutting the source wire and resoldering it with the extra wire that requires power? Is there a way to do it without soldering or even cutting the wire sleeves? Sorry for such a stupid question but googling for "wire tap" returns everything about phonetaps....

you can just strip some of the sleeve off then use electric tap to cover it.

looks like this

basically it splices the existing wire and joins that wire to a new wire, so you don't need to cut the original or solder

You can sometimes tap power at the fuse box, but it can be a pain to figure out which connection comes on with the door lights, ignition, etc. There's a "add-a-fuse" thingie that will let you easily plug into a location, plus add a fuse to your new one. This way costs a bit more, but I think it'd give a more secure connection.

I am aware some are not familar with its technical term; 'Ambience Lighting' so this one's a freebee.

Heres the link that I followed;

It's not hard at all!!
1. Drill some holes in the dash pieces under your dash and run the led's to those holes. (these panels come out of the car so it's really freaking easy to drill the holes.)
2. Sand the tips of the LED's down so that you don't have a spotlight effect
3. Remove center console area (you know...around your shifter knob) and tap the heated seat wires so that the lights come on with the headlights (Black and red striped wire...if I remember correctly)
4. Put everything back together

Less than $10 in parts and 45 minutes to install.

Do a search...there are lots of threads on this. Search using the words footwell or ambient.
BTW...you DON'T need resistors for this project!! Just some blue LED's from superbrightleds.com.

make sure you get a piece of plexiglass cut a few squares to cover the holes you drill or cut under dash. then mount the LED to the plexiglass, it will give you more of a glow then a spot light, trust me i did it both ways to see.

i got my high intensity LED's from pep boys and or auto zone, they work great.
