Hello, I have been thinking about selling my 05 abp tsx and buying an S2000 but i would have to drive it to school everyday, what do you guys think? crazy? Does anyone know someone who drives an S2000 as a everyday driver?

I know your 18, but I do have cuzzins and friends younger than me with kidsbut.....Do you have a gf, wife? Any chance of children soon? Like taking long trips? Need cargo space? Like a quiet cabin?

IMHO if you have/need/want any of these things an S2K is just impractical as a daily, unless you have some other daily to rely on.

But then again you are also 18, so if you can afford it and have no other responsibilities or dont care about any of the "creature comforts" per-se, then I say go for it!

The S2000 is daily driven all the time, it's def doable. That said, it depends on what you want more, speed and performace or a good overall package.

if i had a chance to sell my TSX for an S2000 i would do it in a heartbeat. I would do it because im young enough to not think about having kid no where near in the future nor a wife. I also wouldnt mind a 2 seater because frankly if i cant enjoy a 2 seater now without any responsibility when will i ever have a chance to drive one. but that is just me...

I went the opposite route. smaller car (GSR) to TSX. Reasons: married, wanted something safe and comfortable, not neccessary performance oriented. If I would be single, I would probably get something sporty, but not a 2 seater. Hard top convertable would've been best.

tsx is more practical and i have to lug people around all the time so i rather have the tsx. But i definetely wouldnt mind a s2k as a beater.

I traded my TSX for the S2000 and it has been decent. I use it as a daily driver, but plan to purchase a "beater" (more suited daily driver), preferably the CR-V in the next year or two, since using the S as an ONLY car is quite troubling in couple aspects.

Also, keep in mind the higher maintenance cost of the S, ex: insurance and tires.

S2000 = only 1 girl (unless you use that spacious trunk)

TSX = 4 girls in the car, 2 girls in the trunk

They are both so different. TSX pulls nicer when both cars are shifted at 4000rpm. Space-wise, the S2000 is a little tight for me, being 6' 2". No steering adjustment on the 2002 that I tried meant that the steering wheel would come in contact with my knee.

The TSX is so much "softer" even in the clutch and brake pedals!

I agree and I'm 6'. After driving my f-i-l's S2000, though it is fun and just dying for mods, I wasn't having as much fun in the corners. That back end loves to come around.

I definitely enjoy my TSX day-2-day, but would keep an S2000 in the garage for nice days.

sophomore in college.
was planning to get a 2 seater, but ended up with 06 PWP.
Great car. not that many drive around me
comfort,reliability,trunk space...
when u go off to college, if you want the car sitting next to you, you might want a good trunk space with ur stuff loaded. you'll move around a lot.
going to Chi town, NY back home with friends is great. can never do with a 2 seater.
power and performance wise? S2K much more fun i say
but hey, Redshift is making my vtec a 350hp? my baby is one precious machine

I've driven to vegas with 3 girls...with my 2-door accord it was tight but do-able. I've also driven with like 6 people in my coupe (4 in the back, and 2 in the front with me...once i had a cheerleader practically sitting on my e-brake lol)

2-seater is a whole different way of life. The s2k is a nice car (i remember getting a ride at a honda meet back in 2000 when it was just arriving at the lot). It's fun to drive, but it'd be limited to you commuting by yourself or one other. You can't move alot of people, or items for that matter (I use my rear seat as storage when convenient...it's a habit from high school...I'd automatically put my backpack in the seat behind me rather than trying to lift it across the car into the seat beside me).

Ive had one just before my TSX. The s2000 is a pure roadster, loud inside, harsh ride, no room for anything and parts are very unique to the car (and sometimes expensive, hard to work on ie. clutch takes 10hrs)

Extremely fun , good power and handles amazing especially if you mod it up a bit. Not practical at all. I had mine for a year and then decided that a sport coupe or sedan would be more practical for me and I could drive more places with it and hence my TSX

Its fine to drive in the rain, you just have to have good driving skills. The rear end can come out easily on you if you dont know what you're doing.

As with all RWDs without electronic aids, treat them with respect in the rain. Why do you think Acura/Honda keeps producing FWDs? It's safer.

I know of someone driving on STRAIGHT road, shifting 1st to 2nd in the rain at 9000rpm and losing the rear and fishtailing into the other lanes and finally spinning.

It was 100% fine I could kick the rear end out at will or keep it in line if I wanted its a fantastic car for handling and people dont realize that it sticks very well on a turn and then if you bring it to the limit it will break free with less warning when you cross that limit compared to a car you will feel starting to slide/squeel/break traction long before that happens. As long as you know how to drive and manuever a car beyond daily driving capabilities anyone will be fine in an s2k. Most people that crash them either:

A- dont have the driving skills they think they do and the vehicle gives them false confidence in them

B-not used to RWD and how it affects the vehicle differently in situations compared to FWD

C-Driving the car beyond its limits

I've mulled this one over myself for the past couple months. And most likely wont go for the S2.

A new one if awfully spendy compared to a TSX to buy/insure/maintain, and you dont get the nice stuff like nav, bluetooth, yadda yadda. It would get tiresome as a daily driver quickly.

Does it snow where you live? What are you going to drive during winter when you see 4-5 inchs of snow on the ground? S2000? not!

If it's your only car, then I'm inclined to say no. The S2000 is just too impractical. No trunk space, no back seats, limited drivability in severe weather are just a few of the reasons why an S2000 just would not work if you do not have another car or at least access to another car.

I would say that it depends on the weather. If you're in northern country with snow, it will not make sense as your only car.

Otherwise, I'd say go for it. The S2000 is only for someone who is:

1) young with no passenger requirements. You'll probably know someone with a truck or SUV for those occasional cargo carrying days.

OR

2) someone who has access to another car. I'm assuming at 18 you won't have 2 cars.

I would love one (or a GTO) but it won't happen until the kids are all grownz up. If it's what you want, don't miss your chance!

While it is and will remain a desirable car, the S2000 is on it's way out with a totally new car on it's way 2008. With the exception of Porsche, all new convertibles coming out have hard top convertibles, not soft tops. The 2004 S2000 brought in changes that are highly desirable.

Of all the convertible two seat cars out there, I would love to have that one. It's funny...when you get married (like me) making decisions like that are near impossible. You have the option of getting the S2000 now and will always have the memory of driving it later, no matter what you future holds.

Stock suspension and good winter tires and you're fine. I know many people that drive theirs in the winter (24/7 actually)

And when its cold it does suck but the car is so small inside it heats up very very quickly. I also had a compustar pager alarm/starter so I just auto started my car from inside my house.

well i mean if everyone is going to think like that get an evo/sti and you'll be set all year round. i love my tsx but driving an s2k then driving my car it feels like a tank

I finally test drove the s2000 it was the white with red and black leather it was sick idk if i like the white tho. I kinda feel bad tho it felt like i was cheating on my tsx
