Landerso: Ouch, that sucks... Try to get them to goodwill it, or at least part of it

So, for all of the 2006+ TSX owners, are you paying the dealership the $200 + that they want for the B services? I've gotten a B 1 and they wanted almost $200 for basically inspection stuff. Needless to say, I opted to just get an oil change and tire rotation.

I guess my question is, which B services would you guys pay for? Obviously when the thing comes up for a B service that requires changing a fluid, I should probably do that, but other than that, is any of it really needed?

^^ i gotta agree. Some of this "inspect" stuff if BS. Fluids are pretty easy to do too.

^ I agree as well, but this is getting off topic. Back to reliability....

UPDATE: I also posted to the A/C problem thread, but Acura and my dealer came through for me. They covered a bit over half, leaving me to pay $1089, including tax. That's a whole lot better than $2600.

Just checking back in after several years. Had a 2004, paid sticker ($28,760, I think). Traded it when it came off 4 yr lease w 98000 miles (had leased it at 25K miles per year.) Trade-in was $15,000 - pay-off was $11,500. Big smiles here. No unexpected repairs during ownership. Except for minor cracks in driver's seat leather, car was perfect.

they gave you $15K for trade in for a 98,000 mile car? that's got to be bogus dude.

Nope. It's gospel. At the time, if I remember right, KBB had it at $12K trade-in price and maybe $17.5 K retail. I was more than a little surprised, too, because another dealer (before I had it detailed) only offered $10K. This guy was the sales manager and knew I was going to be paying sticker for a new Scion xB. Maybe that was what did it.

06 5at. 52876 miles. Just dropped car of at shop to have more performance stuff done. Up to this point no bad issues to report on reliability. For someone who knows little about cars this car has made me very happy. Routine maintenance; brakes, rotors, oil changes, rotation, a new tire or two, just did cabin air filter (DIY). Car seems to consume a small amount of oil but it does get floored/redlined as needed. Leather seems ot be holding up fine (as far as I can see) and up to this point it has never been conditioned although I did just pick up Lexol. Battery seems to be fine still. Couldn't be happier.

04 NBP AT with 48k (blue ignition daily driver)
- ~33k rear door actuaters (free from dealer)
- ~40k Replaced front rotors and pads
- ~42k Battery sluggish in winter. replaced by dealer after a little arguing

No major complaints about reliability except I guess I can look forward to the inevitable AC failure. I have the extended warranty so I hope it happens sooner then later.

My only major issue with the car is the lousy paint. In Jersey I do a lot of highway driving and my front end takes a beating.

Damn, first time checking this forum in a long time and I read about this A/C issue with 04 TSX's. No you guys got me worried.

2004 AT, Navi, ~92,000 miles
-Minor Transmission fluid leak after the warranty period. Fixed with a flush for about $250
-Gone through two batteries
-Center console went out during warranty period
-Passenger window switch needed to be replaced. Strangely there was a small hole in it in which a tiny spring came out.

Aside from the center console going out, I've been real happy with the TSX's reliability. Now I have to read up on the A/C issue.

States we were in besides NC were: Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota, Montana, Idaho, Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, Nebraska, Iowa, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland and New York. Had the oil/filter change and tires rotated/balanced at the acura dealer in Reno. (5.5.09 78,626 miles) Oil life is now 30%.

Yes and it does comes in handy for our trips (one of the main reason we got it) For the two of us the tsx is a very comfortable riding car. It is enough room and the trunk was filled by the end of the trip. This was the 3rd cross country roadtrip we have had with this car.

did anyone sit in the back seat on the roadtrip? wow, 3rd cross country?! did you possibly get more than 35 mpg on any stage of your adventure? nice, maybe i will take the TSX on a roadtrip sometime. Chicago to Vegas or Chicago to Seattle possibly.

noone in the back. Last year when we drove from Flagstaff to Yuma, Arizona we averaged 40MPG. This year for the whole trip (we kept track of gas, mileage, price and where we purchased it) we averaged 32.6MPG (9,000 miles)

I have an '06 with a little over 56K.
Mine was CPO so I have 6,000 miles left on the warranty.

Not much has needed to be replaced/fixed on mine.

Here's my list:

-Rack & Pinion needed to be replaced. I'm sure that woud've been expensive outside of warranty.

-The wiper blade arm and moving mechanism needed to be replaced. I not even sure why though. I took in for a regular service once, and I guess they noticed something wrong or not right, and so they completely replaced it. I personally never noticed anything wrong with them.

-The drivers side headlight ignition inverter and control unit (along with the bulb too) just recently had to be replaced. If that was out of warranty, that would've cost $550 (not including the bulb) to replace.

....I think that's all.

Sounds about right.

early 04' with major problems?? i have a 2004 manufactured in 2003, and i have had no problems with it. All i have done are oil changes and a brake job. the car still runs as smooth as it did in 04 when we bought it. If you don't drive your car rough and just drive normal, this car can last forever with just minor fixes and tuneups later on at over 100,000 miles.

and if you fill Shell V-Power gas or the new BP gas with nitrogen and invigorate, then you can extend your engine's life even more. I notice a big difference after using only V-Power or BP with Nitrogen. The car's rpm goes straight up with no shift shock and i get more horsepower and fuel mileage.

Most people with 04s have not experienced engine problems (although there have been a couple). The problems are more related to A/C, printed circuit boards causing dash lights to dim or disappear, door lock actuators, headlight condensation, etc. While those problems don't directly affect the life of the car, they do cost a lot of money to fix and are well documented on 2004 models. If you don't believe it, read up in the problems & fixes section.

problems in 20000 miles

-front door windows squeak (loud) when rolling down, solved with tsb from the tl (replace tubing and motors)
-Left turn signal relay broke

it is a solid car!

2 early build 04's.

- Dash lights out - (MT)
- Condensation in headlights (both my 04's)
- Rotors (both)
- O2 sensor (MT)
- Door actuator (MT)
- Moving drivers seat (Both)
- Replaced VSA sensor (MT)
- Replaced left side front caliper (MT)
- Replaced driver's side mirror bulb (MT)
- Replaced driver's heat seat bulb (Both)
- Rattles galore in both
- The MT has a gasket leak in the engine that's causing oil to slowly dirty the engine bay.

Thankfully nothing major. I'm hoping the AC makes it.

What proof is out there that putting in Shell V-Power or new BP gas with nitrogen will extend the life of your engine?

When did this new BP gas with nitrogen come out? Do all BP stations have it?
For those BP stations that have it, do they have their regular premium gas and then another special BP gas with nitrogen or has the new BP gas with nitrogen replaced the regular premium gas?

yea both BP and shell now put nitrogen in all grades of gasoline along with other additives to clean out engine gunk. It makes a huge difference in the performance. I used to get ridiculous shift shock when using discount branded gasoline. Then starting in 2008, i said let me just get V-Power and nothing less. Then BP came out with Invigorate, and now i only fill BP Ultimate and V-power whenever i get a chance.

I have used other premium gasoline recently like Sunoco and your random local gas station. And i notice that as soon as i drive on that cheaper gas, i get a lot of shift shock and the car runs rough.

With Shell V-Power and BP Ultimate Premium gasoline, my 04' tsx runs smooth as new and have had no shift shock in a while. I drove today and i went from 0 to a 5-6 on the rpm meter with no hesitation.

I also have an 04 and I think i have a little moving seat too. I only feel it sometimes but I can definitely feel it sliding forward a little bit. What did yours feel like and did they fix it under warranty for you?

Where to start? It's been a while so mileage may be off a little.

Keep in mind, I love my car in spite of everything.

[] 2nd gear syncros @ 18K (warranty after complaining since 4K) Use Amsoil for best shift feel.
[] driver seat rails @ 25K (warranty)
[] clutch master or slave cylinders clicking/popping @ 18k, 25K, 36K, 44K (warranty) I think i got rev 4 cylinders now.
[] AC compressor @36K (warranty) They replace most of the AC system.
[] drivers side headlight assembly moisture @ 30K (warranty) Clips added to other side.
[] front door buzzing @ 12K, 14K, 18K, 21K (warranty) I fixed it later with vibration tar sheets.
[] headlight relays @ 40K (warranty only after I explained they were the ones that installed the fog lights and must have failed to reinstall the relays correctly)
[] center console went dark [ecb] @ 47K (TSB warranty)
[] brakes turned w/ new pads @ 22K (warranty (barely))
[] water leak in LR door @ 48K (fixed myself)
[] engine belt @ 50K (myself)
[] trunk wiring @ ?K (TSB warranty)
[] regular maint items like battery, tires, fluids, etc.

I am currently looking at these repairs.
[] replacing/resealing R-side headlight assembly
[] replacing badly warped brake rotors with new pads (won't use Honda parts)
[] maybe replacing axles to fix highway speed vibration
[] wicked instrument panel squeaking

2005 TSX, Manual/Grey/No-Navi/ Approching 60,000 Miles

The only problem that i got was the stupid door lock from the passanger side that when out of me. nothing really bad i think it was like $130 to get a new one in the dealership

I will be swapping my belt for a Gator this week, not because i need it. I like to prevent things before they start wearing off...

Basically i have only spend about $1500

$1100, <-- 4 Set of GoodYears 235/50/17 All Season GT, New Rotors, New Ceramic Brakes pads, Gator Belt, Door Actuator . Not bad for a car that is 4 year old...

My M3 has cost me 3x time more

I have just turned 44,000 miles on my 2006. The warranty is out in December of this year. Nothing was wrong with the car until this summer. Since June, I have had the driver door actuator replaced, driver's door motor and hand switch replaced and the computer that controls the drivers seat positions. Hopefully no more surprises will happen in the near future.

65,000 miles on my 06 TSX and not 1 problem! Knock on Wood. I drive my car for work so I put 30,000+ per year on it and I drive like hell. This has been the most reliable car I have ever owned.

I noticed this month on my 2006 (70,000 miles or so) that the driver's seat front plastic trim has popped apart at the left seam. Grabbing and squeezing the two facias together works, but then they pop again when I set for a few minutes. Oh, well. I got an extended warranty for just this kind of thing.

My wifes 2004 TSX. 110,000 miles.

10,000, Dash and windshield creak fixed under warranty
15,000, Rotors warped and were turned ( I asked for replacement) warranty
20,000, Dash lights out, warranty
25,000, Trunk wiring harness, headlight water leak, recall warranty fixes
30,000, Rotors warped again, new rotors and pads installed under warranty
40,000, Battery died, had to pay for this one
60,000, Rotors warped, replaced, had to pay for this one also
65,000, Rear wheel bearings bad, out of warranty, had to pay
65,000, Drivers window will not go up in colder weather. Dealer wants $500 dollars to fix. Still not repaired. The window works slowly in warm weather.

My 2003 Mercedes C230K has 108,000 miles and has had one recall for a cam sensor fix, and one warranty repair, a check engine light came on at 1,000 miles, a bad hose. No other problems in 7 years.

The TSX has been a little more trouble than I thought it would be, but I would still call it reliable, and fun to drive.

'04 TSX with 136,700 miles, with all dealer servicing done per maintenance schedule. I have enjoyed driving the TSX but it has had a couple of repairs:

- front brake rotors have warped and been turned a couple of times (front rotors turned and then replaced under warranty, and later turned at my expense).
- dash back lights didn't work (well-documented electronics problem), so dealer replaced radio unit card at their expense.
- post 100,000 miles, two automatic door lock actuators were replaced at my expense
- post 100,000 miles, the timing chain stretched and had to be replaced at my expense.
- no problems with A/C or anything else
