It's in the car! Started several times today. :-)

I still can't tell if it's all that much better at starting (still hesitates a bit), but I like to think it's better. From the time I had the car, it seemed like it took longer than I'd expect it should to turn over, taking a lot longer than what I recall from other cars, but maybe it's a bit faster/better now? I should have timed the delay before and after, but I didn't think about it. OH well.

That's why I'm still on the fence about getting a new battery in the next month or two. My car starts pretty slow in the colder weather (scares me sometimes), and I don't feel like getting stranded somewhere, so I'd like to take care of it now, and upgrade the CC a bit, too.

Same boat. I'll tell you one thing. Do no leave your headlights on for more than 5 minutes (I made the dumb mistake at the carwash) It'll drain your stock battery.

Hey guys ( and lady ). I've been doing some research because the service advisor told me my battery tested low (whatever that means) when I took my car in for the 30Kmi. service last week. It seems that the 04 model came with a 410Amp battery installed. But, when I look at the replacement battery on AcuraAutomotiveParts.com they list the OEM as 500Amp. http://www.acuraautomotiveparts.org/...s=&view=normal
Part No. 31500-SR1-100M Description: BATTERY (51R/500AMP85)

Haha. Luckily, I haven't done that yet, except for a couple minutes at the gas station while filling up.

Bah! I may just go with that instead. Decisions, decisions....

But, I have a question. When you click on that link above, it brings up a list of things in addition to just the straight battery. Do you need to order all those things too, or just the battery @ $70?

^^ I'm pretty sure its just the battery. But, watch out for shipping costs. I priced the battery at my local Acura and Honda dealerships and they both were asking $86. The Honda parts dept usually gives me a 15% discount because we bought our Civic there. It wouldn't hurt to ask your parts dept. for a discount and see what they say.

We make the Honda replacement batteries and lead has gone from $.40 per pound to $1.50 over the past 18 months, so $86 for a battery exchange is a good deal.

Decided to go with the 51R battery from Costco. 500CCA and perfect fit as a replacement for the OEM battery. Cost $51.79 plus $5.00 disposal fee. I think my dealer will pay me $8.00 for the OEM core.

I got my car in August 03, I just changed my battery back in November 07. So it lasted me a little over 4 years. I got a replacement from Advance Auto Parts, about $70.

Mine crapped out on my last night in a really shady part of San Diego, luckily I could get a ride to get a new battery.

the tsx in my opinion doesnt have the right size and CCA's compatible to the car. A group size of 51r and 550 CCA is way too insufficient. I have an 06 and my car wouldnt start 1 year later and i had to get her jumped. nothing I did out of the ordinary. Also I can notice it is very sluggish starting on a crisp cold day in NJ.

After 5 days of sitting in an Airport parking lot, my TSX was very weak starting up (temp = 39 deg, 2007 wit 11K). I'm not impressed with this battery at all. After 3 yrs I'm switching to the 51R optima (assuming it goes 3 yrs).

Well I just placed my order through http://www.1st-optima-batteries.com/ for a Yellow Top D51R. I can't wait to put in my new battery to see how much better the car starts. I was at the dealership about 3 weeks ago and they recommended me to replace it. The past 3 days I have noticed that the car needs more juice to start up so I now I really had to replace my battery.

no problems with the stock battery on my 06-starts with no problem. (knock-on-wood)even after it was not driven for almost a month. It is going on 17 months with almost 42,000 miles.

I just went over 50,000 miles on a 2004 TSX that was purchased on September of 2004. It was definitely time to replace my battery. I don't have heavy sound equipment or anything just the Dice Ipod kit for my car. I decided to go with the yellow top D51R even though it might be overkill its better to be safe than sorry

I sent my car to the dealer and I was having the issue of the battery seeming to die or being very low after being left overnight. The dealer said that the voltage was on the low side but within thier spec that they would not change it. So I kept it and when it did the same thing the next two nights I went and got a brand new interstate battery. I am not promoting the interstate line but once I put that battery all my issues of the car seemign low on voltage went away. They did have an optima red and yellow top in the store but they said that unless I had some serious AV equipment or something that the Optima was not work the price. My 2c

I couldn't find a 51R around my area so I bought this instead.

It's smaller than our factory battery, but i was able to fit it in there without any mod. I have been running it for a week now. So far I have no problem with it. It starts better than our factory battery for sure.

Here is the Link

I must be lucky. My 2004 TSX (bought October of 2003) with 45K miles is still on it's original battery. Might be because of the mild climate in Southern CA.

Well I installed my D51R Yellowtop battery and man does the car start faster as if almost the whole car seemed under powered by the crappy OEM battery. I will post pix soon.

I had to replace my wife's 04 TSX battery at about 40,000 miles. She puts about 20,000 miles a year on the car, so it was about 2 years old at the time. I have never had to replace a car battery that soon.

Did I get the wrong one?

Well I went to Advanced Auto I believe and bought a Optima Red Top.
Reading threads here, I went in for the R35.
I went in and asked which one would be for the TSX, he handed it to me,
I paid like $180 or so, and this is what I got:

Now this isn't looking right to me.

According to this below:

My battery is backwards. I'd have to flip it 180 degrees.
Should I bring this thing back or use it, turing it from the one in this picture?

I personnely would return it and purchase the battery from www.1st-optima-batteries.com which have better prices and if you wanted a red top I would go with #35. Here is a link to JTso's install of his Red Top #35 that is the one you want. BTW it is $149 with free shipping and no tax at 1st optima batteries.

He got the 35 it looks like. If the cables fit, I'd just go with it. I'm lazy though.

If you look closer at his pix of his battery he purchased the 75/35 battery not the regular 35.

You're fine. JTso and I are both running 35s and it does sit in upside down. The only diff with the 75/35 is that is comes with SAE and GM posts. The straight 35 just comes with SAE posts. Its also about 2.4lbs heavier, but all the specs are the same.

Just remember to keep the plastic cap on the unused positive side-post or cover it with another insulating material. You don't want to accidentally touch it with a wrench or wire that may be grounded!

Wanting to replace my stock battery too...stupid thing didn't start 3 weeks ago after i stupidly left the radio playing for 30 mins. I mean seriously...30 mins? My dad olds caravan did 2 hours and still started. Does the optima red's fit in our car? I thought they didn't, what would I have to do to make it fit tight?

Thanks for this info. So, would you recommend this over the 51R as shown in this thread? I figure it's about time to replace my Summer 2003 TSX's battery with 42,000 miles, and I have all factory standard equipment. Which battery would be best in that config? Thanks!

Just last week after washing my car ... turned on the car for 10 min so i could power the windows so i could clean them ........ the car didnt start... im sitting at 28000 miles and was shocked that my 2005 TSX AT non/Nav had the battery die... luckily i was at my house and my dad had the car charger handy... now im scared every time i start my car..... gosh $150 is kinda expensive for the #35 when a $75 battery will do the trick on my electronically stock car (minus the gateway media player for my ipod)...
Decisions .... Decisions...

I've always had great luck with the Optima brand batteries so I got the 51r yellow top for mine. I would just rather pay the extra money now and not have to think about it for a long time. Here is a quick pic from my camera from tonight...

The Optimas are far, far more durable than any battery with plates. That's mostly what you're paying for. They're a bit lighter too.

I need to get a new battery for my 05 TSX. I was quoted $125 installed for a new oem battery. Should I go with that or something else? If something else please post a link to it. I need this info today since my car is going in the shop tomorrow for a warranty issue. Thanks!
