TSX Navi wish

Ok guys, time for me to gripe for a second.

I was looking on my Navi for restaurants I might want to eat at so I turned the icon on. I was disappointed to see that while the TSX Navi knows there is a restaurant there, there is no way to see what restaurant it actually is. I wish that the nav had a function where you could point at the restaurant and a balloon would pop up with at least the name of the restaurant, if not the cuisine they serve.

Anyone else with me?

Use your joystick to move the cursor to an icon. If there's a particular type of cuisine that you're interested, ask for it (ie: find nearest chinese restaurant)

But you have to target it with the joystick which is very tedious, then press in on the joystick, which if not careful will cause the crosshairs to slip off the target you're trying to bomb er I mean eat at. It would be far superior if you could press on the restaurant with your finger to get the details.

I tried the targeting thing but I missed and it asked me if I wanted to map a route to that address, lol.

I wish my navi could have the realtime traffic! I tried to reroute and it wasn't that good.

I agree with this as well. I have a portable Garmin for the other car.

We use that feature all the time. When on roadtrips we can simply hit, restaurants, and it will show what is ahead... ex.
Wendys .3 miles
McDonalds .4miles
Applebees 1 mile
You can then simply pick the one you like, and it will modify your route to the location, and then when done, put you back on your route.

Its also a nice feature for Gas Stations.

Um on the '04 you can do this.

Search - Restaurants - Fast Food - Sort by Nearest Destination

Then when done eating, PREVIOUS DESTINATIONS and pick the route you were going to.

Same thing for gas stations or any search categories.

Yeah -- sort of, but not the same -

The garmin lists it all out with the miles next to it

The TSX lists them by name, but you need to scroll to each to see how far. You can't just glance at it and decided. You actually are forced to scroll the list.

The Garmin also modifies the current route, so you have no need to do anything.

Also - I have only had the TSX for approx 1 month - so maybe I just have more learing of the features to do.

Remember the navi disclaimer...they expect you to be looking at the navi while stopped. Thus, they don't need to worry about the joystick missing or not having enough time glancing at the navi. Also, the map icons are there mostly to direct you to nearby locations. For example, if you ask for lodging or gas stations, you might not care which is which...you'll just want to drive to the closest one. If you're picky about the food you eat, you should instead ask for a list for the type of food you're interested in (ie: find nearest chinese food).

The TSX can add waypoints to your route, so it can modify your route as well. It does have the problem of offering locations hundreds of miles away. Yesterday we wanted to eat some chinese food, and one of the listings at the top of the page was 59 miles away. I doubt that chinese restaurants are so sparce that there'd only be 5 to 10 of them within 60 miles of a major metropolitan city

Don't make excuses for that jostick, it's tricky even parked, and if the co-pilot tries to make use of it while the car is moving then the bumbs and jiggles of the road make it tougher than balancing on a float log.

If I ask for a list of (insert chain name here), sorted by distance, I get a list hits starting from hundreds of miles away. Not exactly fast food. Arrrrgh.

Yeah, the joystick sux. The one under the TL's display works and feels much better.
