TSX - Most HP of any NA 4 banger?
#41
Get back on topic nuckleheads! I'm really am curious what other 4-cys on the market make more power. We've covered the S2000. Didn't the Honda Prelude type Si make 210hp?
Nissan, Mazda and Toyota don't make 200hp NA 4-cyls. The Germans don't even bother with NA 4-cyl's anymore. I think it's a safe bet that Honda makes the highest horsepower naturally aspirated 4-cyl's on the market.
They've had a 2.2L engine for a couple of years now.
If I recall, the 2.0L only lasted one or two years before they bumped up the displacement to allow more torque. People weren't down with the super high revs and lack of torque...didn't make it friendly for cruising around.

Alright, so I have less automotive intelligence than you, grow some balls man. I drive my car for what it is, don't need to know anything else about it. If I install what I need to install, I don't need any technical terms.

I'm sure the question is:
Does the TSX have the most HP of any normally aspirated 4 cylinder car?
Maybe the most of any "Current and Mass Production" 4 Cylinder car.
Here's the only other two that top the TSX for HP:
Honda S2000 - 2.2 L 237 HP
Lotus Exige - 1.8 L 220 HP (I was surprised that the other production Lotus Elise only has 190, but it weighs about 2,000 lbs)
Only one other comes close:
Nissan Sentra Spec-V - 2.5 L 200 HP (would probably smoke a TSX because of torque and weight advantage)

By the way - if we were including turbo 4's, the Subaru WRX Sti would top all of those at 293 HP!

I assume we're talking about "cars" with the most powerful naturally aspirated 4 bangers that are mass produced, but if you want to step outside of that a little, you'd see some hypersport bikes that have even higher specific outputs than the S2000.
Suzuki Hyabusa has a 1.3 NA I-4 that makes roughly 175 hp, giving it a specific output of ~135 hp/liter, where as using the S2k's original numbers of 240 hp and 2.0 liters gives a specific output of "only" 120 hp/liter. The Suzuki engine (whatever it's called) would be considered as mass-produced as the F20C I think.
You can make an NA I-4 engine that produces 300+ hp, but you run into physical limitations like fuel octane and engine management systems that would keep it from blowing up in production use.

luvs redheads!
okay seriously. you guys call yourselves enthusiasts?? really...seriously.
The most efficient per liter is the integra type-R.
1.8L NON TURBO with 195hp and can rev to 8k.
I own all.

The F20C produces the highest horsepower per liter for any naturally aspirated engine currently sold on the market that is less than $100,000 , at 120 horsepower per liter. It is followed by both the 2ZZ powered Celica Sports-M (UK only) developing 110 horsepower per liter (200hp through 1.8 liters) and the B18C5+ found in the Honda Integra Type R (Also ~200hp through 1.8 liters).
