TSX leather

Hello,

Just wondering how everyone's leather is looking in their first gen TSX? I just aquired a TSX, and I'm not sure how much care the seats require to keep them looking decent?

Also, since I live in a colder climate, should I take extra precaution in making sure that I condition the seats more regularly?

When I was looking for a car, I found alot of TSX's with horrible looking seats. Some looked like the owner took a sander to them. The one I got has black leather interior and it looks as good as it did new, execpt for some creases due to butts being in the seat. I use Meguiar's cleaner/conditioner every month when I give the car a full detail (wash, wax, vaccuum, leather and plastic conditioners, rainx...)

Mine looks fine. I've conditioned the leather every month or couple months since I got it with Zaino leather conditioner. 2004s are 6 years old (some older) now, so they will show some wear.

My driver's seat has the normal wrinkles that would be expected after 118K miles, but the other positions look pristine since I typically drive solo. Been using Meguiar's leather and vinyl conditioner/cleaner since the car was new.

I have a 2006 TSX with quartz seats for over 3 1/2 year with +60,000 miles. The seats still look new with no visible signs of wear other than the normal creases. People are still amazed how good the car looks and smell for a 2006.

I used to condition the seats once a month. I haven't done anything to the seats since last spring. I need to get back to conditioning the seats before I reach the point of no return.

I do make sure I vacuum several times a month. I think dirt/sand can really damage the seats and carpets if left there to long.

I live in Mass (which means all weather, from below zero to high 90's), and have an 05 with grey interior. Sorry to say it, but haven't really touched them (it actually, pretty much solo the whole time so it's only the drivers seat that has any use). It has a nice patina, but still looks OK. This is with 112K miles and will be 5 years in April.

The 07 with almost 80K miles (again just the driver's seat), has black interior and that seat still looks great (no care).

I have not cared for my seats either and they do look fine. I take great care of the car in general and that helps. I bought some leather cleaner/preserver stuff from the dealership and I think I used it once.
BTW the quartz (light grey) interior is AWESOME looking. I had it in my 05 and and I miss it ever since I got my 06.

Seats show some wrinkles in it but nothing too serious. Treat them and clean them and it should be fine from some normal wear and tear. I don't wear a wallet when I sit in the seats but noticed when I did it would leave a little crease in them.

Mine seats still look excellent-clean and condition them with mequiar's-more often during the hot summer months. My car is also kept in the garage which helps.

I have a first gen 04 (manufacture date in 03) and the leather on my seats is nearly perfect. The driver side bolster has a few little wrinkles on it but that's it.

Black Leather in my 06 is in excellent condition. Back seats are still bubble wrapped there in perfect condition. pass side is awesome, driver side just has the wrinkles near the door from my big bottom.

It's finished leather (the parts that ARE leather), so not a lot should be required. But I, like many, use a nice cleaner and conditioner from time to time to keep the material supple and clean.

There's a whole lotta discussion of this in Wash 'n Wax. Check there, too.

My passenger and rear seats are fine, with intermittent cleaning and conditioning. My driver's seat, on the other hand, is a nightmare. I've had it replaced once under warranty and within 9 months is was shredded again. My issue is that I'm very short (5'0) and so my seat stays pulled far ahead for me to drive. However, what happens is I rub against the bolster each time I get in and out of the car. I've posted a thread on this with pictures showing the damage. It's horrible, looks horrible, and irritates me that the "leather" is so cheap. Yes, obviously now, after I realized why it was doing it, I could have pushed the seat back each time I get out, but hindsight is 20/20 and now the damage is done. And unless I want to pay to have the entire seat reupholstered for a 2nd time, it's probably going to stay that way.

Something I do when my daughter visits is set memory position 1 (i use key fob #2) to very far forward so that she can egress/disembark on the driver's side in my (narrow) garage. The reverse might work for others. Have the memory posiion associated with your fob roll the seat back for entry, then switch to the other position for driving. Won't work for two-driver households, of course.

Right, like I said, had I known the wear and tear on the leather was ever going to be an issue, I'd have been doing that from the beginning. But now that it's already in shreds, it's too little, too late. Not to mention that I never lock my doors, so it would be a lot to get used to... locking the door in the first place, then carrying around two fobs to make sure my seat gets pushed back each time. I think it's unnecessary and that the leather should have held up better, but I've only encountered one other vertically-challenged person experiencing this problem.

I dunno why you'd need two fobs. Program the seat to roll back with the one that opens, and then push the other button to "slide in" to driving position. But if you don't lock up at all....

While researching part #s for the lower seat trim for my driver's seat (the left front joint had gotten worn and busted open), I noticed that the bottom and back leather covers are separate parts. $400-500 depending on discount online, I know not cheap, but replaceable.

we do not lock the doors when it is parked in our garage. Depending on who is driving it, we either push the seat back or forth before we get in. Do not need to turn the car on and no need for the fobs.

Folks. Something to keep in mind. The side bolsters on the bottom part of the driver's and passnerger's side seats are not leather. They're vinyl. Every tsx 04-08 will show creases within a matter of months on these well worn areas. The center sections of the chairs with holes in them, and I believe the head rest are the leather parts. Those parts should wear well. There's a thread on here that discusses this. Basically, you can do a touch test to determine which parts of the car are leather or vinyl. You won't be able to keep the vinyl bolster free of creases if you drive in the car on a daily basis. I have yet to see a 04-08 tsx (aside from brand new) that doesn't have creases in the bolsters. They tend to look worse on the gray/black interiors. They're harder to see on the parchment interior.

I also don't lock my car in my garage, too. When Junior Spalding visits, I let her out with the seat in the MEM1, full forward position, and more often than not, we get back in the same way. I just touch MEM2 so I can climb in.

I actually find that setting the set to slide forward helps me get out.

Um ... you might want to go double check your assertion. The SIDE part of the seats are vinyl, as when you poke it, it stretches. But the two side panels that you sit on, either side of the "perforated" panel, are leather. When you poke 'em, wrinkles appear.

Basically, anything your body touches is leather. Aside from the rear passenger seat head rests, which are all leather,... why, I have no idea. UV protection, maybe.

I have to credit Colin for edumacating me each time I mention this. Long story....

Noticed a little crack in my rear passenger's seat. Hopefully some lexol will help it. Does anyone know if a tear in the leather is covered under warranty?

all my seats in my tan interior and mint other than a small fade in the paint in my drivers seat from the previous owner which bugs me out..I've considered having the seat re-dyed but im not too sure how long it would hold up...anyone ever have there leather seats re-sprayed? i worked for a guy that would dye leather seats by airbrushing them, it looked mint when he was done but im not sure how long it would last....other than cleaning the dirt off the seats and conditioning them like everyone said i dont think there is much else you can do

I get my Leatherique kit in on Friday, so I'll do a write up in the Wash and Wax section. My seats are in good condition but have some dirt build up thats really hard to get off with commercial products. It's a simple process and I'll let you guys know how well it comes out (hopefully as good as everyone elses).

Leather damage at 30-35K

2005 TSX with grey interior....started pealing/flaking on the driver's seatback bolster around 30-35,000 miles. Dealer tried to dye the area, but it continued to flake. Guessing problem caused because I am 5'3" and rub against the bolster upon enter/exit. Acura Customer Service and dealer service advisor said normal wear and tear which is not covered under warranty...I said for $30K the leather should hold up better. Found out that service manager has a discretionary pot of money to keep customers happy and upon talking to him and him seeing that in 4 years I had consistently done ALL service at dealership including new tires at 40K - he would replace the damaged panel for free. According to invoice it cost the dealership about $350.

I live in AZ and have only Lexol'ed my seats about once a year, so not sure if that is a factor or not.

Yeah. Right. Like "dyeing" the leather stops it from deterioating. (It's "finished leather," so I don't think you can even dye it. I'd be wary of the "dye" coming off on my clothes.)

The cushion covers retail for a few hundred dollars each (not dealer cost), so doing the math ... a few more years of regular maintenance definitely compensates them for a one-time goodwill replacement.

BTW, I believe other owners have had a seat bottom or back replaced as a good will warranty beause, as you said, a $30,000 car's leather upholstery shouldn't fall apart 2/3 way through the factory warranty.

My center console is slightly worn and there is a small tear on the driver seat (from previous owner). Other than that it's in very good condition.
