TSX feminine?

(This post was originally a response to the GBP a girls color? thread but i didnt want to jack his thread.)

It’s funny that the TSX being a girl car was brought up because 2 different girls that I know asked me what car I got and when I told them a TSX these were their responses:

1. TSX? Isn’t that a girls car? (to which I replied no maybe you're thinking of the RSX?.. I don’t really think the RSX is a girls car but she was putting the sweat on me and that’s all I could think of as a response)

2. TSX? DUDE! that is a girls car! Why didn’t you get a TL?

And in truth I was a bit taken aback by their comments, ever since then I have noticed a lot of girls driving the TSX.

I mean I thought to myself "shit these bitches are making me feel like I drive a convertible beetle with daisy rims".

I know people say who cares what other people think, but really it does make me wonder if "other" people or the majority of people think the TSX is a feminine car?

So I am curious if the female TSX owners think its a feminine car. ( I am assuming the guys that own TSX would of course say its not )

(i dont take this all too seriously.. im just bored at work and need more things to read) and on a side note i got so bored i visited an M3 forum.. and wow.. those guys are pretty harsh.. one of them said they got a 325 as a loaner and said they were so embarassed to be seen in it) if you want to know what people talk about on different planets I highly suggest doing some reading in the M3 forum its entertaining to say the least.

I swear 90% of the other TSX drivers I have seen have been women, rather mature women.
I'm now so used to it it doesn't faze me no more. (used to be "WTF !? another one ???!!!")
So to me, I've surrendered to that "fact" - it is a "womens car"

Feminine v. masculine auto designs is a common discussion. it applies to every car / vehicle. Every car! I work in product design and it is a discussion in my field as well. Volvo had a vehicle designed by woman Is it only for woman? Dunno?
Coincidentally, last night I met a woman who had 2 muscle cars (much tougher than my TSX). and she was no boy!

I walked out of a restaraunt, with my wife, to our car which was parked right in front. A woman who was waiting asked us what type of car we had. I told her and she replied "That's a really cute car!"

A few friends overheard it and I haven't been able to live it down since.

most of the ppl I see driving it are women. It's my wife's daily too.

It doesn't bother me.

Its a hot car....who cares what everybody else thinks?? Everybody expects a guy to get out of my car when I go to places...lol maybe just cause the stuff I have done. I see about as many males as females that drive them where I am from.

We've had this disscussion before, I even made a thread about this too, but I'm going to have to search my old thread for this.

Btw, the Jetta and the Beetle are true feminine cars to me. A car with a flower vase in it? Enough said......

Unless you're driving a baby blue Mazda Miata, a lime green VW Beetle, or a pink mini, I really don't think it should really matter what other people think about your car. The TSX really doesn't strike most people as being particularly masculine or feminine. And honestly, if you're concerned that you bought a "feminine" car, perhaps you should think carefully about just how comfortable you really are with your masculinity...

BTW, Ellakameleon, cool pic for the avatar.

This may not be a majority opinion, but I consider a baby blue Miata more of a "male" gendered car than the TSX. Just take a Miata out on a road course and drive the shit out of it and you may agree. Also, I remember back in my youth when we were all building hot rods and muscle cars and one of my buddies had a very nicely hopped up baby blue '53 Chevy Coupe and another had a sort of "baby blue" '57 Ford Victoria and another had a '33 Chevy rod in a sort of baby blue, so baby blue to me doesn't necessarily mean "girly".

But if I was to make two columns, one "male" and one "female" and start putting cars under those headings, the TSX would have to be under "female".

When we were shopping and narrowed it down to TSX or TL, I wanted the TL but since my wife would drive this car more than me, she wanted the TSX. My wife loves our TSX and I really like it a lot, too. It is peppy and handles very well and is designed with class and good taste and quality. I also consider my 500+hp '95 Supra a bitch, too; my wife says it's my "mistress". For some reason I'd put a Viper on the "male" side, even though most Vipers I run into when in my Supra are left in the dust.

"Laughing out loud out loud out loud?"

Anyway, back on topic: the car is pretty androgenous to me. I don't think the guys who drive them clearly have feminine taste, but I don't feel like a girl in a manly car either.

How's that for straddling the fence?

i'm telling these kids that the styling is towards the fem side and everyone gets their panties in a knot.

if you like the car, then buy it and drive it as i did. of course, i threw a body kit on it give it some harder lines.

You, of all people, have no right to be calling other people "kids" with your attitude...

also about the styling being feminine... i just dont see it? i mean to me the sharp lines on the TSX are pretty neutral and not really leaning one way or another in terms of manly/feminine. (as opposed to something really bubbly like a beetle or a mini )

Which is why i asked the question as to why others would think it was feminine. I guess i was curious if someone was going to point out something i never thought of like the lights or the wheels or the grill ect..ect.. that led them to believe it was girly.

either way thanks for everyones feedback.

Who cares what people like that think about the TSX, alot of people know that it is a great car. Opinions are like a**holes, everyone has one. Unfortunately there are too many pretentious idiots in our society. As long as you are satisfied with the car that is all the matters.

To my mind, the fact that this topic is brought up so often just shows one more way in which this car is well-rounded. If Acura designed a car that only appealed to one gender, they'd be missing out on 1/2 of their market. That would be dumb, no? Not only is it a nice blend of sport and luxury in so many ways, but apparently it has an identity crisis in the gender-appeal department also. I don't think of this as a bad thing.

As to why so many "men" are threatened by women driving this car, I'm mystified.

the size of it has a lot to do with it - the car is tiny. its a four banger. doors have no accent/lines. fogs. i cant put a definitive finger on it.

So if small cars = feminine, the IS350, G35 coupe, Nissan 350z, not to mention cars like Porsche, AM (my all-time favorite) are all feminine as well?

Fogs are girly?

4-banger: Dude, it's 205 HP, that's more than MANY 6-cyl. engines produce.
Why women are only expected to drive weak engines is another topic entirely.

Not sure why I'm even discussing this. It's not like my manhood is threatened.

I 'll restate my comment another way. any car can be seen as feminine.
Personally I don't care which gender is dominant owners of TSXs or Miatas. Furthermore I
that would never affect my satisfaction with my TSX.

..........
G35coupe? seen quite a few 60+ woman driving them
M3? seen quite a few woman driving them
corvettes? seen alot of 60+ few woman driving them
saw a 60+ woman driving a black 06 Civic Si the other day ...Cool!
Suburban 4x4 monster driven by a 20 year old 5ft hottie
Girls drift for krypsake.
I shall not continue

get it? all cars are driven by men and woman, girls and boys.

It's the driver not the car.

and finally:

Acura TSX owner demographics:

* 50 percent male
* Median age 43 years
* 60 percent married
* 78 percent college educated
* $86,000 median household income

from the Corporate Acura site

..hmm I wonder what the other 50% is?

BTW, Ellakameleon, cool pic for the avatar.
Some of the coolest cars ever made (IMO) came in the optional color pink. For example, if you were the proud owner of say a 1970 Hemi 'Cuda in Panther Pink (aka pepto bismal pink) you would be one wealthy SOB. 1970's gay color is today's 401k plan in this example.

Some dude likely ordered up a pink Mopar E-body in the 70's got laughed at by everyone in the hood, and if he kept till the '90s likely sold it for $500,000 to 1-mil easy.

Yes this is rare example, just shows colors and cars are fads.

And what's so wrong with a baby blue Miata?

Quick Reply: TSX feminine?
